what are your picks for Oscars tonight?

I'm thinking that maybe "The Artist" will just sweep lots of categories: Best Picture, Best Actor and Best Director. I'm convinced that Viola Davis will edge out Meryl Streep and that Octavia Spencer will get Best Supp. Actress. I am hopeful that Christopher Plummer will get it for "The Beginners."

What are your picks?

I adore Streep but I think it is Davis's "time." I'd like to think it is because she is such a fine actor but it seems the Academy has its own ideas about this.

I'm beginning to wonder, tho, if there might not be a backlash against The Artist.

I think the arts community really loves Plummer. He is an actor's actor...

From what I have heard it could very well pick up several of the categories you list. I'll bet, tho, if my prediction of a sweep by The Artist proves true, that Hugo won't get Best Director. The rest sounds perfect!

It's shocking that it has been that long since she's won. She is hands down the best and most diverse actress in the world right now, and maybe ever.

Viola Davis really hasn't been in many things, has she? But I didn't see The Help, so maybe that was a hands down awesome performance, where she was out of her element and playing against type and such.

Christopher Plummer - I didn't see his movie. But I do know he is an amazing actor.

I read that the Artist is the type of movie that wins a lot at the Oscars - it's about THEMSELVES (actors) and their business, and it's about an AGING WHITE MALE (another favorite at the Oscars, since so many aging white male actors relate to it), and it was so different for this day and age. I didn't see that one either, though!

I really think the actors community, who vote in the Academy Awards, will probably get it.

I could be wrong and they could go with Streep, but I just think the civil rights issue is such a political issue that it is what people are thinking right now...just my two cents, tho.

being drunk or stoned is very unprofessional and does affect your interaction with the other actors.
Maybe he could have shown GREATER talent not being such a boob.

I thought the movie was good (my favorite by far is Goblet of Fire, which is my least favorite of the books--go figure), but Alan Rickman was so, so, so, so goddamn genius that it shouldn't have mattered how little screen time he got. That performance was as heart-shattering as any I have ever seen.

I enjoyed the latter two, didn't know what to think of The Help, but I liked Octavia Spencer and Viola Davis. I wish I'd seen Albert Nobb, which sounds interesting. I love Meryl Streep but I just can't do another British government film right now.

Partly 'cause none of the nominees I give a shit about.

Mostly for one last middle finger towards Hollywood for their SOPA/PIPA bullshit.
