Kind of in honor of Robin Williams, since he was one of those actors that people flocked to see, regardless of what the movie was about. You just knew he would at least be good.
We can even throw in directors. Who are the people that make you take notice when you hear they are in or directed movie XYZ and will then make it a point to check out that movie?
For me:
Kevin Spacey - he doesn't make many movies, but House of Cards is must-see TV because he's in it.
Daniel Day-Lewis - you know if he's in it, it's going to be a good movie.
Denzel Washington - Ditto
Oscar Isaac - He makes the cut after "Inside LLewyn Davis." Can't wait for "A Most Violent Year" coming out later this year.
Jennifer Lawrence
Jessica Chastain - Makes the cut after "Zero Dark Thirty" and "Mama"
Lupita Nyong'o - She's a major star on the rise.
Michael Fassbender
Morgan Freeman
Amy Adams
Steven Spielberg - Especially if he's actually directing it, won't necessarily see everything he produces since he does so many.
Aaron Sorkin - Yeah, he's a writer, but I love his style.
Guillermo Del Toro - Even if he's just producing it.

(5,364 posts)Humphrey Bogart, Jimmy Stewart, Robert Mitchum. I'm only 52 but while I like movies from many different eras, I prefer the older stuff.

(38,958 posts)there are some that I avoid as well as directors.
Just watched part of Wolf of Wall Street and I will never watch another Martin Scorsese movie again what a terrible job of editing. A three hour movie that could have easily been done in about 45 minutes to an hour.

(12,448 posts)It's a funny, tragic, thought-provoking movie that should be out in the states this month. I happened to see it in Killarney, Fassbender's hometown, back in May. I'd never really taken much notice of the actor but I think he should get a best-actor nod for this performance.

(12,132 posts)Although I also follow franchises no matter who directs or stars: James Bond, Star Wars, Star Trek, almost every Pixar movie (provided Larry the Cable Guy isn't in it)..
I love John Turturro but I'm skipping the new one with Woody Allen because fuck woody allen.
Meryl Streep and Helen Mirren are always on my mind.
I know not everyone likes him but Will Farrell makes me laugh so hard I pee. Him and all his friends that are always with him. Love everything they do.
I love everything about Sarah Silverman. Except one thing - she doesn't seem to want to marry me. Oh well, my wife probably wouldn't let me be married to someone else too anyway.
