Is it just me or is the phrase "affordable tacos" redundant?

There's a taco place that's opening in the area this fall. They are quoted in the newspaper as offering "high quality, affordable tacos." Ok, isn't that redundant? Shouldn't tacos BE affordable, like at the absolute most say $2 a pop? Has inflation gotten so bad that this restaurant thinks it can get away with $5 or more for a taco?? Or is just yet another yuppie restaurateur that thinks they can repackage street food as gourmet in order to charge a fortune?

Fuck that noise. And the fact that this new place has to tell us they are "affordable," makes me afraid we're looking at the same prices here.

Squirrel or owl tacos. (That one bird in your photo seems to be looking very beseechingly at me.)

Our state bird is the quail. Sho' 'nuf, there's a trendy SF eatery that specializes in it. And you practically have to be born with reservations.

Here in the "cesspool" Rico's Taco's are 2 for $1.50. But then again, we don't suffer from gentrification -- just one more advantage of living amongst the unwashed masses.

when talking about the San Joaquin Valley which makes the residents here who grow and harvest much of the nation's food supply pieces of shit. This, from the "liberal" Bay Area. And now the techies are moving in and looking down their noses at the natives. Don't 'cha just love Karma?

No, the term is not redundant. Chipotle, a national chain probably selling more tacos than anybody except Taco Bell, sells 3 high-quality made-to-order-and-specification tacos for between $6-8, depending on the market; tack on a drink and a side of chips & guac--a decent Chipotle lunch costs $10.

That San Francisco place listed in the first reply is selling tacos for $4 EACH, which is insane.

I can only imagine what individual tacos at this new place are going to cost if they have to tell us they're affordable.
