Rescue Kitten Lands Starring Role on Broadway, and You Could Take Him Home

A rescue kitten has gone from living on the edge to sitting in the catbird seat, after winning a coveted part in a new Broadway revival.

Eight-week-old Alfonso, a grey and white domestic shorthair, beat out 14 other auditioning kittens to score the starring role alongside actors James Earl Jones and Rose Byrne in "You Can't Take It With You," due to open on The Great White Way on Aug. 26.

"The role required a kitten to remain very still on a small desk for five or six minutes and Alfonso had the perfect temperament," said Sandra DeFeo, director of public relations for the Humane Society of New York, which is providing all of the animals for the revival. "But he's not alone. His brother Louis is starring next to him in a smaller role. He will be curled up in an open wooden box next to the desk."

thinking, and anti-corporate sentiment in this show. You'll love it. Cool that James Earl Jones is playing Grampa. My DH & I can't look at Lionel Barrymore any longer without calling him that because he starred in the movie version.

that people come out of the wood work to adopt kittens that are publicized like this or the kitten that was found on the Verrazano Bridge a few years ago but shelters are overflowing with kittens that are just as cute and sweet.

Proud mama of two non-famous rescue kitties.

these guys WERE in the shelter. Anything, including publicity that helps shelter kitties find homes is fine by me.

literally thousands of people will try to adopt these kittens because James Earl Jones held them while shelters are filled to the max with adorable cats waiting for a new home.

Start with these two, direct people to petfinder for others. Can't save them all at once, so gotta save them one (or more) kitty at a time.

I actually cry real tears when I leave a shelter. I have always wanted to work in one...but I just cannot take them all home.

Mister Alfonso doesn't get up in the morning for less than 2 mil, and, of course, there's the contract rider.

There had been a production of Shake'speare's Two Gentlmen Of Verona, which features a
dog named Crab as a character (in a famous scene, his owner complains at length of
his surly nature during a hilarious speech, while the dog looks on).

After the production ended, it was announced that the dog "actor" who had played Crab,
and had originally been adopted from the pound, was available for adoption by some caring owner.

A friend of ours and her daughter ended up adopting Crab, kept the name, and had him as part of their family
for many years (we got to be his principal dog-sitters ).

Crab was a ridiculously silly Airedale-mix with a hilarious "I am the center of the universe" personality.
Crab was very affectionate, absolutely "gonzo", highly-intelligent, and provided endless hours of entertainment with his antics.

An unforgettable creature. One of the best dogs I've ever met--Never a dull moment with that beast around.

If there really is a rainbow bridge, I would want Crab right there when I cross to greet me (even though he wasn't my dog),
right along with my own beloved pets.
