Anthropomorphizing the Moon and More Moon Lore

In medieval through Georgian times, in some counties of England, the common people were accustomed to say at the prime of the moon, "It is a fine moon, God bless her."

In Scotland, women would curtsy to the new moon.

At the first new moon in the new year, stand astride a gate look at the moon and say, "All hail to the moon, all hail to thee. I prithee good moon, reveal to me this night who my love must be." When you sleep you will dream of your true love.

In Australia in the 19th century, it was believed that a fish caught under a full moon and exposed to its rays would become poisonous.
