We're going to be leaving in 20 minutes to go the vet, Peanut has a Mast Cell Tumor on her chest. She is 13 or 14 and very loved. Her favorite vet, Dr Mugee will do the surgery. She should be home tonight, so I'll update later.
**********update 10/8/14` in essence Peanuts recovery has been mostly unremarkable, a few attempts at self removal of her drain& sutures, she would get caught fairly quick, and cone of shame applied. Yesterday afternoon, she had some diarrhea in the house, called vet, tweaked last nights' meds. This am, before breakfast, she vomited dark red blood, another call to the vet, we will be going in some time today, but it appears the first line "chemo lite" of a big dose of predisone and Prilosec isn't going to work. There is a more detailed post in Pets about her tumor grade.
so no breakfast for her, one tablespoon of water to rinse her mouth, and 'm feeling guilty drinking my coffee cause she is watching intently. I think I'll pass on breakfast too, I feel a bit guilty eating in front of her, weird I know. Uupdates dates later

(32,980 posts)The vet pathologist gets final word, and that should be back Thursday. Dr Mugee said the tumor was not attached to the ribs or chest muscles. The lymph nodes he checked in office were clear. I am so relieved I am weeping. Another good day for us baby girl, another good day.

(32,980 posts)Earlier this am I found Peanut eating the cats' breakfast kibble. Magik the Cat was complaining loudly, busted. She also feels well enough to try and remove the surgical drain, a Penrose drain , from the top edge of her looks to be ~ 6 inch incision. B/C she is part greyhound, an Elizabethan dog collar is a better choice for her then a cone of shame.... she is now wearing that and a loose fitting 6toddler sized t shirt with decorative duct tape at the lower edge to keep the drain dry and clear. I am not her favorite right now..... She will get over it. ( i think the cats are laughing at her....).

(32,980 posts)I updated it in the first post, she had diarrhea last night, called vet, adjusted last nights meds, then this am she vomited dark red blood....the semi chemo of lg dose of predisone/Prilosec isn't sitting easy for her stomach. I am a little freaked, diarrhea has many causes but vomiting blood gets a lot of attention from me.
