She was in her sixties. I would have loved to had her around so much longer, to get to know my daughter, her first great-grand child.

She was planning a trip to Africa.

I still miss her...

between my daughter who died in 1975 at the age of 3 months

or my brother who died last year at the age of 40.

I decided it would be my brother because it was hard enough losing a child I didn't get to spend years and years loving. I couldn't even imagine how awful it must have been...must still be...for my mom to have lost her only son, after loving him for 40 years.

And he had children.

Yeah...so I would choose my brother.

He died of Aids at 55 in 1994. If he had survived just one more year he could have got the new medications and he could have had another 20-30 years of life.

That all came after her death.

he died when he was 49, 17 years ago. Even with all the shit I learned about him after he died...I'd still prefer that he was here still.

Sorry to be so self-centred and narcissistic, but assuming the requirement is not for the person in question to already be dead, I would say me. Otherwise it would be hard to choose between my parents, my sister, my three best friends...

I find a human lifespan ridiculously short. I have stacks of unread books I'll likely not get to. There will be great scientific advances I won't get to hear about. There's great classical music I won't have heard. If we make contact with aliens, I'll probably miss it. My great American novel will remain in the drawer, unfinished...

I could easily fill a thousand year lifespan.

He was a good man and only 39 when he was killed. He was better to me than my own father.

I was around 2 weeks old.

But then, I'd have never known my wonderful, loving step-mother, the only mom I ever knew.

What a sad question. I miss my dad too, and my sister...and lots of other people who died too young.

I wonder how my family's life would have been different had he lived.

Second choice would be my former spouse who died last June. His death was a great shock to my adult children, and it hit me much harder than I expected. The loss of a parent unexpectedly is always difficult.

Died too young from a disease she defied the statistical odds to get. Died two years before she would have been able to see the grandchildren that she desperately wanted and whom she would have adored and doted on -she was always the best with kids. Also had a real zest for life and living it to the full

Died at 50 when I was 14
We had our problems but if he had lived longer I would have been older and strong enough to tell him to stop being a jerk
And I think he would have (or so I like to think)
