Well played.

(31,401 posts)He is more than an actor and producer and director.
He is the only person in Academy Award history to be nominated for Oscars in six different categories: Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay and Best Adapted Screenplay.
Clooney is also noted for his political activism and has served as one of the United Nations Messengers of Peace since January 31, 2008.[4][5][6] His humanitarian work includes his advocacy of finding a resolution for the Darfur conflict, raising funds for the 2010 Haiti earthquake, 2004 Tsunami, and 9/11 victims, and creating documentaries such as Sand and Sorrow to raise awareness about international crises. He is also a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
So, maybe it makes the attraction a little more apparent?

(11,175 posts)George Clooney doesn't need to worry about his career being denigrated. He's one of the most widely recognized and admired people in the world. In fact, he's such a star that the overall coverage of this wedding tended to slight her, not him.
The linked article wasn't offered as an example of what the coverage should be, but as a balance to the coverage that's actually been given.

(31,401 posts)in the media when not giving appropriate credit to her legal career. So, really,
in terms of bias, it's no better than most of the articles about their marriage.
And the media is TOTALLY missing the boat by not emphasizing Clooney's
involvement with politics and international human rights, which, I suspect,
has contributed highly to the attraction between the two of them.
It wouldn't have taken any more effort from the linked organization to write an
appropriate article, and could have ended up being an example for how
something like this should be done. They missed the boat.
But to say she married "an actor"? There are millions of actors in the world
and, as his wikipedia bio indicates, he's the ONLY person to ever have been
nominated in six different categories for an academy award. Some actor.
Most of what I've seen written about her describes her as an internationally known
human rights attorney. Not your run of the mill lawyer, so I don't know that
the treatment she's getting in the media is really as bad as the linked article
treats Clooney.
Indeed, here's a fairly balanced example and if you read down you'll find this:
Clooney met her through his activism.

And from the photos of that dress, well, she certainly is interested in glamour and
fashion and not exactly a vision of a prim barrister.

(101,347 posts)It's the way they don't bother giving his name for ages, and then it's "whose name is George Clooney, were told"; and then he may be "a bit clingy", since he's always in the photographs people take of her. It's a joke about how coverage always focuses on him.
that is how a woman is usually portrayed no matter what her accomplishments are. Put the most glamorous of a pair up front and OH mention the woman. Clooney probably has the sense of balance and humor to understand the piece.
