Potentially stupid question: is the 5th string higher or lower? 7 string guitars have one lower string but I have no idea how it works for the bass. Can it be either/or?

Typically the 5th string is tuned to "B" below the "E" to give a B – E – A – D – G tuning. Some people tune the low string to "E" and tune the high string to "C" (All fourths tuning unlike guitar where the 5th string is tuned to a third). On six string basses there is the low and high string and the fifths tuning produces B – E – A – D – G - C. Conklin makes a 7 string and it's tuned Low B, E, A, D, G, C and High F (all fourths)

My fingers are too short for it to be practical. One of the things I like about the G&L I play is that it has a 1.8" nut width so the neck isn't overly wide. I have a Fender P-Bass 5 string that has a nut width just over two inches and it's a little uncomfortable higher up on the scale where the strings spread out. The G&L is just right though!

I had to work as well. Luckily I never missed a playoffs game or the world series. Always home in time to watch the game. I probably got to go to 40 games this year, so the Giants got my support. (Plus all those venders, caps, hot dogs, sodas, a few beers, popcorn, and pizza slices.)
I can't wait for next year, I may get season tickets if I can afford it, for weekends. Would love to sneak off to Arizona and watch some pre season games, that way you can snag many more autographs. Hang out with McCovey Cove Dave and talk about his boat!!

So here's a picture of me as a weird skinny kid in the early 'sixties:

One of my awesome elementary school teachers didn't think it was strange that my favorite book was Alfred Powell Morgan's The boys' second book of radio and electronics and she let me take it home from her classroom library and I didn't have to return it until the last day of school.

Your Bass Player costume is awesome.

I am an art teacher, and am very interested in culture, and I approach it from that angle. Oaxaca also has a great folk art carving tradition, too.
