LOS ANGELES, Nov. 6 (UPI) -- Mark Wahlberg will star in The Six Billion Dollar Man.
The film is based on 1970s television series The Six Million Dollar Man, and will see the 43-year-old actor reunite with Lone Survivor director Peter Berg. Berg, Bob Weinstein, Sarah Aubrey and Stephen Levinson will produce.
The Six Million Dollar Man was based on the 1972 novel Cyborg by Martin Caidin, and premiered on ABC in 1973. The series starred Lee Majors as Steve Austin, a former astronaut outfitted with bionic implants after he is injured in a crash. The enhancements give the character increased strength, speed and vision, and he is recruited as a secret agent by the Office of Scientific Intelligence.

(12,132 posts)I can say I am interested in this. I can't say I am huge fan of his but I thought he was great in Boogie Nights and the reality show he does with his brothers is pretty funny.

(7,570 posts)If they could explore the psychology of the Steve Austin character from the book, this could be interesting. The book's Austin does not have an easy time becoming a "cyborg". Although he has some enhanced abilities, he's not a superman and actually resents being made a high-tech assassin and errand boy for the government. Even the TV show started off exploring these issues, until it slowly started getting less realistic and more ridiculous.
But no, I'm sure this will just be another bloated, brainless action movie. Another icon from my youth thoroughly destroyed.
