The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsFor the last 72 hours I have ony watched the Weather Channel.
Am I the only one who just can't stomach ANY news right now? Can't even bring myself to watch "The Daily Show" or "Colbert" although I might try tonight. Sigh.

(72,790 posts)So it's not too bad. Plus, I guess I am one of those folks that believes in the theory that "life goes on".
Elections happen. Sometimes they go our way, sometimes they don't.
I guess I am a bit fortunate that I live in blue CT, so I won't be affected as much by the changing of the guard as some others.
But, there's nothing any of us can do about it now. The election is over. Only thing we can do is work to make it better next time.
Hope you have a good evening.

(28,394 posts)I had the TV off yesterday, but turned it on today. I have been watching Democracy Now and Thom Hartmann mostly. I did turn on Rachel tonight. She didn't talk about the election that I can recall, or at least not very much.
Tweety is dead to me though.

(16,383 posts)I'm not use to having the television machine off; I have to have the background noise, even when I sleep. I'm a news junkie who can't watch the news! I'm having withdrawals.

(22,057 posts)Love to look at old houses, especially when they're being saved, not "updated" to a hideously inappropriate "open-concept".
Back in the 1800-1900's homes had things called "rooms" and kitchens were "rooms" not part of enormous wide-open spaces. Save that crap for modern houses, don't ruin old homes with "remuddle-ing".
Haven't seen the news since Tuesday night.

(16,383 posts)I have one and I can't stand it. The acoustics are terrible, it's impossible to reach cobwebs, and the openness feels cold and drafty. There is no privacy. We also have a kitchen that is open to the family room and I especially dislike that configuration. Much prefer low ceilings and actual doors. I'm determined that my next house is going to be built in the 50s or 60s. On the other hand, I guess I should feel grateful I have a roof over my head, as so many us don't these days.

(22,057 posts)Our house dates from around 1900-recent roof, painting, plumbing and electric. In 25 years we've been able remodel the first floor but upstairs still has holes in the plaster from the rewiring.
But its dry and warm and paid for with good neighbors. Its also in walking distance to the library, a deli and the town square so I'm really VERY lucky.
