http://rottenpanda.com/cats-and-dogs-losing-the-battle-against-human-furniture/1/Human furniture was designed for humans. Without the unique shape of our bodies, it's fairly awkward and redundant. For example, the human bottom is a rather plump affair by the standards of the animal kingdom. This is why you (should) never see a cat with 'booty'!
And so it was that we envisioned the humble chair to further cushion our magnificent backsides. For animals, chairs and sofas are just awkward. They can't help but get stuck in something that wasn't designed for them. But boy is it joyfully awkward when they do!

I love it when his little haunches get all poofed out, and he tucks his little front paws in.
