Cats-the beast within

"They came for the mice, stayed for the food scraps, and whenever it suited, kept cuddly with the cats from the other side of the granary. In other words, not only are cats still mostly wild, but they pretty much tamed themselves. Maybe that means humans are “cats’ best friend.”

Article explains why cats are still the little shitheads that they are-bless them:

1. I always disagree when they say cats are emotionally unattached...

My cats have always been very affectionate. It's obvious when they are smiling or are upset. They are very loving little critters, IMO.

2. I have probably lived with a total of 20 cats in my lifetime over the years, from babyhood on

(currently have three) and they all have their own very distinct personalities, likes/dislikes, and quirks, but all of them were loving and affectionate. To varying extents they all love/d petting, they love/d to carry on conversations, and they love/d to snuggle and get human attention. This thing about cats being antisocial to humans is bunk (of course with a few exceptions, but those are the exceptions).

she hated everyone and everything. other critters were only good for eating.
We had ehr for nearly 10 years and then one day she disappeared. Funny thing I loved that little wildcat.

4. I love a bully

I know what you mean about loving these cats with atypical behavior.

I have three and one is a horrendous bully. She crowds out the other two on food and every other issue in the house. She wakes me up and crabs about food starting early in the morning and will not shut up until she gets what she wants. She has quite the vocal repertoire and she even resorts to pulling my hair if I don't get her food fast enough. Oh and did I mention she is obsessed with food. Not fat, but definitely loves her food.

If any other cat develops a place they like to lounge around in the house? Well, guess what: soon enough it's her favorite place to lounge around.

In every way, shape, and form, she is a bully.

One day she must have been ill and disappeared somewhere on the 2nd floor. I couldn't find her anywhere. That's when I realized I loved her like crazy, despite her bully ways. She reappeared late that evening. I was so relieved.

Here she is:

Cats. Ya' gotta' love 'em.

5. I think much of it has to do with socialization at an early age...

This is the general consensus and it makes sense

Our latest adoption was 8 weeks old and she was very socialized by the people at the clinic.

Funny story: when we picked her up, they gave us the adoption "papers" and a booklet with the vet's notes. They said "feed her only wet <brand> food and she is a VERY picky eater" (emphasis theirs).

Picky eater, my ass! That kitten was ravenous for EVERYTHING and today, at four years, still will try anything we offer her at least once. We don't feed her table scraps and she is not overweight, but she will eat french fries, pineapple, asparagus, steak -- just about anything! It's creepy!
