So how did you spend your Sunday?

I'll go first.

Spilled a whole jar of dill pickles out of the refrigerator and the lid came off.

Bathed the border collie and tried to trim his winter dreads on his tummy. Ha!

Listened to my favorite jazz radio show.

Went to Big Lots. What a crazy place. Bought two folding chairs, lime green, for the lawn this summer. Also bought a jar of pickled celery salad from Germany, a dozen wee Easter chicks to go inside sugar eggs, and some pink grapefruit flavored Tic Tacs. !

Walked three miles. Sunny day!

Spent six hours immersed in a WW2 project. Transcribing the letters and diaries of my uncle who was on Corregidor and became a POW. Am working with two WW2 researchers to find uncle's diaries on fish can labels that were sent to Washington after he returned to the states -- war crimes evidence.

Read the Sunday paper. Sorted some old family photos and scanned some to share.

Cooking. Laundry. Etc.

How was your day?

errrr, what day did you say this is?

I'm retired, each day pretty much open for anything at any time. This day I chose to sleep in, watch TV, drink a couple cups of tea, talk on the phone, read DU, watched some more TV, read DU again. Oh, and the one constructive thing I did today was to make a list of things I need to do, like going to the store, getting gas, library. One of these days I need to sit down and pay the bills. Whooppee!!!

Your WW2 project sounds interesting. Good luck with that.

It's hard to read about the suffering of the POWs. Hard to understand how there could be such evil in human nature. It's a wonder how any of our boys could ever return to normal life after that. I recently read the book "Unbroken" about the Olympic runner who was captured in the Pacific in WW2 and a prisoner of the Japanese for years. So sad.

In addition to taking care of my knee, I am also fighting off the awful cold my husband has.

So...I spent the day alternating between napping and being up on DU.

I actually didn't feel anywhere near normal till tonight, when I watched the movie "Hugo." It was charming and just what I needed.

Cuz I can't imagine how icky it would be to be doped up and also fighting a cold. I hate feeling stuffy.

So Hugo is already on DVD?

Sometimes I feel a bit uncomfortable, and that's all...

Luckily the cold seems limited to a slightly sore throat. And fatigue.

Yes, Hugo is out on DVD. We got it from Netflix, and it's really a nice little movie. I didn't need to see it in 3-D either.

I knew I would want that one, so I bought it rather than renting. My jazz musician friends say the sound track is sublime.

I cleaned my whole house, and went to Target to buy a bunch of necessities for homeless people. My daughter's kindergarten class is collecting supplies for them that are due this week---they gave us a list so I bought coloring books, crayons, pencils, pencil sharpeners, hair scrunchies/barrets (those were for the kids) and shampoo/conditioner, lip balm, feminine products, brushes/combs, baby wipes, dental floss, toothpaste and tooth brushes. I still need a few more things to add, but got most on the list.

Then I cooked baked scallops, broccoli and rice pilaf and watched Family Guy.

Oh yeah, I forgot---I also went to the salon and got a manicure/pedicure and a wax.

Taken from my FB status......
Today... I took a TV receptacle off a switch, fixed garage door opener, ran and terminated CAT 5 cable, set up a wireless network, ran #6, #10, #12 wire, installed circuit breakers, hooked up a welder, plasma cutter, provided a gfci protected 120 volt circuit. So..... What did you do? Lol j/k

Being self employed can be good or bad. I will might take a weekday off/half day to make up for the Sunday work?

breakfast at a small family owned place in town, chatting with the regulars, discovering that the wife of a couple we've been seeing there the past few years grew up in the same neighborhood I did 50 years ago and may be a distant cousin.

When Mr Pipi and I got home, I started digging in my family photos and genealogy stuff, then spent the major part of the day online trying to research some more.

Did a bit of reading, played with the dogs, just chilled out.

It was a damn fine day.

I went on a short 4 mile hike in the morning with a friend I hadn't seen since August. So that was great catching up and having an all around good time.

Then had a date in the evening with a girl I've been seeing the last month. I've been friends with her since October, but only recently have we started seeing each other seperately from our group of friends. Last night really confirmed that she's interested and wants to see me more.

Was told to get there an hour before anyone else showed up, walked 5 miles to get there, and then there was only 3 in the group that we were supposed to march with (last year we had about 20 in the pouring rain). We ended up cancelling our group's march (it would look bad with only 3 people) and joined with my congressman and senator.

Then went to the bar, ordered beer, corned beef, and cabbage.

Started with my wife and I having breakfast at a local diner/breakfast place (I don't think they are open past lunch any day - I've only ever been there for breakfast though). They know how to make grits right so we like that place.

Then went to see Safehouse with Denzel and that kid from 2 guys a Girl and a Pizza Place. No spoilers but we liked it. Movie tix are damned expensive though - It wasn't the giant special effects driven megamovie that I usually spend theater money on but I had a gift card that covered it all so I didn't mind. (Generally, we presume that there are movies that one "must" see in a theater because they have the big screen and fancy sound that I don't have at home and there are other movies that are just fine on our living room TV and then there are a few in-betweens. Safehouse was an in-between that I might have waited for Blu-Ray but, like I said, we had a gift card)

Then a few miles from the theater we attended is a little ice-cream place that has walk-up window service only so we went and got some ice cream and ate it in the car. (It's a small family owned place that has been there for 49 years - although I believe it is a different family that owns it now) That put me a couple miles from Grandpa's house so we went and visited him and I updated some Windows files for him so his computer would be up to date and his azaleas were blooming spectacularly so I took a few pictures but I didn't have my real camera - just the little point and shoot my wife carries around sometimes. Haven't looked a the pics yet so I hope they come out..

Then stopped at the grocery store for a few things and went home to watch TV and play on the computer.
