DU Album of the Day: Yes - "The Yes Album"

Ok I have to confess. YES use to be my #3 band but I'm pissed that they would replace lead singer Jon Anderson with a Yes Tribute band singer. Sure Anderson had some major health issues during a YES tour so at the time they did what they had to do to finish the tour and I even saw the kid sing - he was good. But I'm such a big fan of Jon Anderson that when the remaining members of YES decided to keep the tribute band singer, my loyalties stayed with Anderson.

So YES is still in my top 20 but just not in the top 10. And I'll always love their albums.

But I post this today because it's a very good day for me today - tonight I have tickets to see an Acoustic Show with Jon Anderson at the Queen in Wilmington. He's suppose to be doing plenty of Yes songs which if he does it'll probably be 'Singalong with Jon Anderson' night since I know all the lyrics to the best hits of YES.

My favorite song of the album is Starship Troopers. When I saw YES in concert (my 3rd concert ever), YES closed with "Starship Trooper" and it was such a theatrical event with all the lights circling around. I think it was that moment I realized that I loved music and especially rock music.

And I've always had this connection with the song "I've Seen All Good People". I remember about a day before my father died I had this dream right before I had woken up. It was a typical dream I had throughout my childhood where I was in a burning house and my father always rescued me. Except in this dream, he rescused me but he didn't make it out ok. In that dream when they pulled out his body, the song "All Good People" was playing (what I think happened was I was still dreaming when the clock radio alarm, set to a local rock station, went off in the morning). And although he died, I somehow knew that he was going someplace good and would always watch over me. So when I hear that song it reminds me that although my father isn't here on earth he's still with me in spirit.

So enjoy!

Cool story about your dad. I find it interesting the places music can take our memories.
