Why is it no matter how early I get up…I’m always down to the wire when I leave for work?

I have to be at work at 7:30 AM. I get up at 5:30 AM. Everything I can, I do the night before; pick out what clothes I’ll wear, fix coffee so all I have to do is turn on the switch. Yet I’m always right up to the wire getting to work.

So…anybody else have this problem and how did you deal with it?

You have to learn to stay off DU (and those "other" sites) before getting dressed. HopeHoops Mar 2012 #7

Or figure what you're doing in that two hours that shouldn't take so long.

Heck, I've even got my coffeemaker where it turns itself on at the same time I set my alarm, but then I hit snooze and don't get out of bed until the smell of coffee makes it's way to my bedroom.

I've worked every shift schedule there is and it doesn't seem to matter what time I get up: It's always everything I can possibly do to get out of the house on time. What really frosts my ass is that when I actually do get out of the house, say 3 to 5 minutes earlier than usual, it never fails, repeat, never fails that something else on the way to work delays me and erodes that small bit of time; be it a fire/emergency vehicle "stealing" my green light, being behind a school bus that stops seemingly every 5 bus lengths, or road construction that closes off a lane.

What I began doing, and it has helped, is packing my dinner or lunch and work uniforms in my grip bag the night before. The only thing wrong is that I somehow subconsciously think I have more time than I do owing to the few minutes I saved prepacking my grip...and so I have to fight it.

Nowadays, I set my alarm for 5:10 and cannot get up at 5:10. I go to bed way too late and I shouldn't. I blame my online time; since every damned thing under the sun is blocked at work, I have to do all of this before work.

If so, then it's just your nature and there are no tricks.

I'm the same way.
