I was watching a nature show that had Otters in them and they are so fun and loveable. All I would have to do is put a pool in the backyard so they could swim. I think my cats would love them!
See here are the instructions on how to keep them as a pet

(11,916 posts)I was just telling my daughter about that book the other day. We were in buying videos from Blockbuster. They were having a 'going out of business' sale. I found "Ring of Bright Water" in the family movie section - another story about otter/human interaction. Haven't had a chance to watch it yet, but need to have enough 'after homework - before bed' time with my son to fit it in. I was hoping it would be a lot like Okee the Otter.

(6,581 posts)I go to a Petco down the road at lunch to pick up bird seed some times, and they have ferrets for sale up near the register in a big plexiglass case. They look like they would be fun, albeit on the mischievous side. They have such a good time playing with each other and their toys, and then they just flop down and fall asleep.

They are fun. They play hard when they are awake. And they sleep hard the rest of the time. You have to have a certain level of respect for any critter that can comfortably use its own arse as a pillow.

(6,362 posts)I had a chow at the same time and they were hysterical to watch. The ferret, Midgelynn, would jump and snap at Freddie's mane... he would take a paw and flatten her and roll over on top of her. Midgelynn would wiggle out from underneath and run to the other end of the apartment. Fred would chase her down... she would jump and snap at his mane, he would flatten her.... they would go back and forth and back and forth. It was too funny!
She also had a fondness for ears.... or earwax or something. She'd get up on the top of the couch and come up behind you and start licking your ears.
And she ALWAYS went in the litter box!
They have a musky smell. If that smell doesn't bother you, then you might just enjoy taking care of a ferret!

(13,920 posts)for more zookeeper injuries than any other animal. Due to looking all sweet and harmless and cuddly, and setting unsuspecting zookeepers at their ease, as opposed to handling, say, a cobra which is not so sweet and harmless and cuddly in appearance.
I don't know that its true, but that's what I heard.

(7,349 posts)Not for the animal. Wild animals are happiest in the wild. It's cruel to keep them as pets, unless it's in a shelter that strives to give them as natural a habitat as possible.

(54,397 posts)I have seen them in the wild, and they are such freedom-loving animals who revel in their
freedom to swim anywhere, run anywhere, the very thought of being responsible for putting
one in captivity would gnaw away any joy I might have at "owning" one.
