Can you get a decent orange in the northern states in winter

been hoping to bite into something that tastes like an orange but all I can find is stuff that looks good with little taste. We just got some Cara Cara oranges but they had little taste.

I have memories of just off the tree oranges in Florida when we took the kids to Disney World. Will I ever taste it again without a trip to Florida again?

I never buy them because they come in a 5 lb. box (or 3 lb. bag). I wish they would sell them in smaller amounts. They are clementines, but i'm not sure how they taste.

They're super-easy to peel; in general I like them.

I've also found the ones from California are not quite as good as the ones from Spain or Morocco. I'm not sure why that would be.

the other side of the world now. We in the rest of the US get ours from some other continent.

Only half kidding.

Citrus ships very well - my aunts and uncles always liked the oranges we used to ship to them every winter - and we loved the pecans they shipped to us from Alabama! This week wouldn't been good, you'd likely get oranges that were frozen solid on the trip.

Search for "Florida citrus shipped" and check out the various sites. I can't make a recommendation - I own a share of some orange groves (one grove has been in the family since my Dad helped plant the original trees in the late 1920s) so I've never had to buy oranges. We used to go pick oranges over the Christmas break to send off to the relatives. Now if we want some, we just ask the grove managers to drop off a couple of boxes, LOL!

One thing - varieties of oranges can taste very different. This site: http://www.florida-citrus.com/ccatalog.html has a lot of different kinds of citrus so you could try one of their medleys and see which kind you like best. They have been in business for over 100 years so they are not fly by nights but I can't swear by the quality of fruit or service because I haven't bought from them.

I've been getting Cara Cara oranges here in North Texas this week that aren't too bad. I just had one. They just start coming into season in December so some of the early ones might not be the best.

All I know is that when it gets cold I get a craving.
Over the years I have gone to red grapefruit because oranges were always so disappointing.
Thought I would try again - and again I was disappointed.
