I'm a single guy and whenever I have to go buy greeting cards for christmas and birthdays and all the other stuff required by today's etiquette, I feel self conscious as hell and sweat like a whore in church? It's worse if others are around.
If I'm with a girl doing the same thing I'm not enthusiastic, but I feel like I have political cover of sorts and am more at ease.
Anyone else feel this way?
Stupid hang-up. That is all.

(20,453 posts)You'd have to explore that more
and it probably comes from pre-conceived notions surrounding why you're buying the greeting card.
Either you get someone to talk to in person (professionally?) or a really supportive friend. It's not a stupid hang up if it makes you sweat like a whore in church and talk about it here.

(2,015 posts)That would just walk into a store and grab the first card that the picture appealed to him. It was pretty funny and I have to admit I was a little disappointed the first time the card actually matched the occasion.

(6,261 posts)I told everyone never to expect another card from me again. It worked wonders. As a side benefit, I don't have to bother cleaning the house anymore either because the chance of friends dropping by unexpectedly is nil.

(2,682 posts)I hate plowing through all the syrupy sweet insincere twaddle printed on them.
So, since I'm not totally anti-social, I took up card-making. I can then easily match a sentiment with a design. I've found that most people receiving my hand-made cards appreciate them. An uncle told me he saves hand-made cards because he likes and appreciates the time and effort put into them.
I don't make a card each time one is needed; once a year or so, or when I'm in the mood, I make a bunch of cards, leaving the inside to be filled in later. That way, I have a supply at hand for whenever I need one.
I'm not at all artistic, but I can put pieces of paper together and punch corners and use rubber stamps. It satisfies my desire for creativity when I actually lack the skills. Haven't been to a card shop in years.

(25,816 posts)I use them for all occasions. Most cards now-a-days are either sappy or dumb.

(35,688 posts)if I passed by a guy poring over greeting cards. See it all the time; never think it's unusual or even take note.
Hah, come to think of it, the last time I was in the greeting card aisle there was a cop there, too, with his guns and radios and stuff all hanging off his belt. He was having a good 'ole time reading some of the funnier cards.
