What is the quickest way to do a search on Usenet?

The internet doesn't seem to be much help. I don't want to subscribe to a service if it's not necessary. Many years ago it was as easy as jumping on Deja News. Then Google took over and they use to have an option called "newsgroups." Now it seems to be that the first rule of Usenet is that you don't talk about Usenet.
