I am a non-believer. Therefore I will probably not join in the holiday festivities today

I have tried to be a pro football fan, but it just leaves me cold.
Some folks talk of visions and transcendental experiences. I feel none of the rapture. I feel none of the joy.
Whereas others meet in communal meals and conviviality on this day, I feel like such an outsider.
I have tried to study the nuances of various defenses and offenses, yet I just can't understand.

Am I the only one here who will be spending Super Bowl Sunday alone? The only one not partaking of hours of pre-game stories and tales of past triumphs?

I think it is ethically dubious at least to watch and enjoy football. alarimer Feb 2015 #11

I'm in the office pool but aside from that - it's the Puppy-Kitten-Fish Bowls for me.

have had his ass cemented to his chair watching the tube for the past 2 weeks. But it is all so overhyped and frankly, to me, boring.

I quit watching about XXIX years ago

Imbolc is a celebration honoring the Goddess Brighid, patron of fire, poetry, wells, healing and smithcraft.

I am repelled by and do not understand the worship of men in helmets and tights throwing balls. The culture of the Nacirema mystifies me.

It a violent sport that results in crippling injuries for many of the players. Especially head injuries that begin early on (try high school or earlier) and manifest in serious cognitive deficits later in life.

I have a hard time reconciling enjoying watching the game, when I know many of these players will end up badly injured. The average pro football career is 3-4 years. That's it. Not enough to set them up for life. So they have to do something else, but what, given the number of traumatic brain injuries?

To say nothing of the fact that the NFL is nominally a non-profit, yet the commissioner makes $44 million, while cheerleaders are barely paid minimum wage.

These teams blackmail taxpayers out of millions for new stadiums by threatening to move the team elsewhere.

So, yeah, I fucking hate football.
