Right now though I don't have anything to say.

(11,833 posts)This afternoon I helped a friend teach a college seminar on Legal and Business Issues in the Arts. It was a three-hour class, so I'm exhausted. But in a good way.
How are you? How was your day?
CaliforniaPeggy
(149,699 posts)Today's been good but crazy...
I had an early (for me) Dr.'s appointment about the pain in my left foot...
Then I found out I got onto MIRT!
And I wanted to post about my anniversary.
So I've been typing like mad most of the day!
lovemydog
(11,833 posts)I like that too. I feel like if someone replies to a post of mine, I like to write them back. Even if I disagree or whatever I can still try and state it in a friendly manner. I think because it makes me feel more connected to the world.
I barely know what MIRT is, lol. Something about getting rid of stupid mofos and spam bots or something?
CaliforniaPeggy
(149,699 posts)Yeah, MIRT=malicious intruder removal team.
This is my second round doing it, and it's fascinating. We get rid of well, malicious intruders! They are here with the sole purpose of disrupting DU. And they must have a post count of less than 100 for us to remove them.
There are so many that some days it's hard to believe.

(11,833 posts)This evening when I logged on there was a message asking me to serve on a jury. The post offended me so much that it took me a while to even figure out what to say in my explanation of why to hide. I was tired. And really pissed off. The post had something to do with saying to vaccine proponents to go suck on obamacare or something, and was written by someone with only two posts here, and I think it even mentioned undocumented immigrants or some such nonsense.
So for my explanation, I kept typing stuff like 'Hey asshole, fuck right off of DU!' and different words to that effect. So by the time I wrote a non-swearing explanation and hit confirm, it said the post had already been adjudicated or deleted.
So I went to see the post. And it was auto removed and the name of the poster was removed. I laughed and said to myself 'Ha! Way to go DU!'
Is that what MIRT does?
lovemydog
(11,833 posts)Is there a way we as posters can contact them? I wouldn't very often. Once as I saw someone post something insanely racist. Checked the next day and they had been removed. So I wondered, can a regular poster like me contact MIRT?

(72,300 posts)MIRT will check 'em out.
Sorry for jumping in here I'm thinking that CalPeggy must be taking care of bad guys or catching a midnight nap.

(11,833 posts)Thanks for the nice note! That's great. Is there a list somewhere of current MIR Team volunteers? Sorry for being such a doofus here. Anything I can learn is really good. Hope you enjoy a good night. Thanks for volunteering. You all do an excellent job getting rid of trolls. Why they would want to spend time writing stupid crap only to get removed is one of those unexplainable mysteries.

(72,300 posts)IMO: There are some individuals who are truly in need of psychiatric counseling.
It's not an easy thing to be part of MIRT. I don't know if I'll do it again.

(11,833 posts)you mean the trolls who post here. That it's disturbing reading their garbage?

(72,300 posts)It seems to be a game to the trolls who return over again and again.

(2,682 posts)Glad to hear you both have had good days. I'm just catching up on some TV shows I recorded and now I'm at the computer doing some genealogy research and checking DU. And here you are!!
I considered going to the store, but, hey, what the heck, there's nothing I absolutely needed, and there was the TV and it was raining a bit, and............... I didn't leave the house.
A friend and I went to the movies Sunday, Super Bowl avoidance. We saw Mr. Turner, a biopic about the life of JWM Turner, the painter (you can see some of his paintings on Wikipedia). It was less than riveting, however, they used photography that evoked his paintings (harbors, ships, nature). So it was a beautiful movie. The actor playing Turner was Timothy Spall, who played a rat in a Harry Potter movie so I kept expecting him to grow whiskers and a tail. A bit distracting.
Have a good evening.

(11,833 posts)That's cool that you're doing genealogy research. Is it for your own family? You know what Jeff Foxworthy said, you might be a redneck if you're family tree is a straight line. What tv shows did you catch up on?
Oh, I want to see that movie Mr. Turner. An artist friend really enjoyed it, said it's gorgeous. I've seen some of his work and like it. You must be really into the Harry Potter movie if you remember an actor who played a rat!
Have a good evening too!

(2,682 posts)I'm usually not on the computer until the evening.
Yes, the genealogy research is for my own family. I've found that my 8th great grandmother was hanged as a witch in Salem in 1692 and that we are descended from poor relations of royalty. I've always loved reading history so this hobby suits me quite well. I've been working on it for over 40 years.
I retired nearly 6 years ago. When I was working, I never watched the latest TV shows because in the evening I was usually on the computer doing research. So now I've been watching re-runs: Artful Detective, Law & Order, Blue Bloods, NCIS, and just recently I discovered NCIS Los Angeles. I've also watched a Canadian series, Flashpoint. I tape them so I can zip past the commercials.
We get an international station, MhZ which runs TV series from different countries. I tape them at night and watch during the day when the rest of the family is at work/school. Swedish series Enemy's Enemy, and Beck. A German series Cenk Batu. A Norwegian one started last night, but I don't know the name of it. There are also a couple of Italian ones, but I tried watching and I don't like either of them.
No, I'm not really into Harry Potter although I've seen all the movies. It's just that the rat was so memorable that when I saw the same actor as Mr. Turner, it brought it to mind.
Hope you've had another pleasant day.

(53,339 posts)My hat is off to you both.
I think my biggest accomplishment this week will be my reporting for jury duty today.
lovemydog
(11,833 posts)Good luck with the jury duty. I'm picturing you telling jokes to everyone. Judge: 'Order in the court.' Pinboy3niner: 'I'll have a ham & cheese on rye.'
