(102,292 posts)I realize this has been a serious year for snow storms and especially along the route of this current storm. I wish all the best.

(14,881 posts)yes, it's a pr stunt. no, it doesn't hurt anything.
worst case, people adopt it, the other channels start using the names. so what.
fact is that this has been a wierd year for storms. it's not the total snowfall or even the size of the storms. it's the way they've all been jammed into a few weeks, instead of spread out. normally, we'd have a bunch in december, then a short january thaw that shrinks the piles, then get hit hard in february and march.
instead, we had 2 feet in november, warm weather through december and january, until the last week of january. now january temperatures with nonstop february storm systems. it makes it much harder to deal with when you can't finish digging out from one storm before the next one hits.

(14,881 posts)we got about 1" last night. Tiny little flakes coming and going all day not amounting to anything.
I'm going to finish a couple more chores then take a break. If I'm up to it, I'm thinking I can scoop the driveway in an easy hour later today. then tomorrow morning, do it again.
As long as the cold front holds, anyway. every storm up until this one, we were supposed to just get dustings, and then the cold front gave way and we got creamed. fingers crossed that the slower moving front will stay stalled off-shore and to our south. this really getting old....

(14,881 posts)Somewhere around 3pm I looked out the window and noticed it was now coming down steady. Slow but steady.
Just brought the horses some water and hay, and picked up the barn. It was a little warmer than I expected out. And the total since I headed out: ~1" down in ~1 hour. If this continues through the night and tomorrow am, no way we'll be the 3-5" they're predicting.
Note to self: never, never, never think you're out of the woods. Because you're not. Ever.
