(14,400 posts)It wasn't cheap but we cut our oil usage by more than 1/3. It wound up paying for itself during some of the expensive oil years.
But I hear you on the gray hair, I hate spending that kind of money.

I'm trying to remember if there was some way I could have strained it yesterday at work. We were horrendously busy.

(14,948 posts)I am going to venture out to the store in an hour or so to buy the V-Day dinner ingredients. And to the liquor store for some prosecco. Then I will stoke the wood stove and stay put. We put food out for the birds, squirrels and bunnies. We leave the barn door open so any critters can have shelter. And we snuggle up and wait for the worst to pass.

My heart goes out to the defenseless ones, I don't know how the wild creatures get by in this kind of winter so I help where and when I can.
I would bring them all inside if I could! And wouldn't that be amazing- snuggled up with the bunnies and birds by the wood stove.

(14,881 posts)so I could see them temp through the frosty window. It blew down in a storm years ago. I decided to not replace it. I don't want to know.
Last Friday, when I was waiting for the taxi, it felt positively balmy standing in the bright sun and protected from any wind by the snow piled by the driveway. I found out from the taxi driver it was 7 below when he left to pick me up. Pretty sad state of affairs when 7 below feels balmy

(72,300 posts)I had one of those at the old house. Maybe I'll get around to rehanging it this year.
It's up to 15 degrees now.
