(54,436 posts)We had the same instrumentation (I was Ray Manzarek, doing keyboards with my right hand and keyboard bass with my left, although I also played a regular bass when we switched to "Cream" mode).
One of our greatest compliments was when we were doing Light My Fire (we did the long version note for note) and I heard someone come in near us and shout over the din, "I thought it was really the Doors playing!"

(4,636 posts)(I was more guitar oriented), but now they have become one of my favorite bands. They are a true original.
Salud Jim.

(5,829 posts)Saw tgem in concert 2x. 1st was shortly after Florida fiasco. Jim was very sedate that night. Dressed in jeans & oxford shirt w/ tail out.
2nd time I was 6th row center on the floor & Jim was back to 'normal.' Can't say f/ sure if music tracks on Live! album f/ that concert, but line "police are to protect & serve" is (whole line of cops in front of stage). Bit at end about the 'be in' also from then (promoter Pat DeCesar's voice).
Had all the albums up to Jim's death. (Like to get my hands on fkwad that stole my album collection.)
Biography that came out in 70, the one the movie's based on, is a good read.

(11,833 posts)How was the crowd at each show? After the Florida incident were they kind of nervous? The Florida thing turned into a bit of a riot didn't it?

(5,829 posts)rambunctious & louder at 2nd but mostly well-behaved. I remember we went to the 'be in' under Civic Arena afterwards (after hanging around garage to try & spot them leaving). It was like a head shop convention.
I saw a few great concerts in "the 60s" - 1st was in 68: the Turtles, opening f/ Steppenwolf. Also @ Igloo

(1,562 posts)I have all their original albums on vinyl. I've been picking up their music on CD too. I saw The Doors of the 21st Century a couple years ago at what I still call the Garden State Arts Center. Ray Manzarek was still with us. Wish I could've seen Jim.

I hated the movie about them.
