Now I can see it is easier, but not so much that I ever cared before. I place it over now so visitors won't think I am a philistine.

However, I used to have a cat that would destroy the roll if it was over, so I've been under out of habit (from saving the roll).

Easier to reach the top of the roll and hold it while I deftly tear off the exact amount I need, no more, no less, without tearing it off at a point between the perforations. An "over" installed roll would cause a more awkward reach under to hold the roll for proper metering.

I have the actual calculations, but I've mis-placed them at the moment. Maybe I wrote them down on TP

But I still find the "under" method easier from my seated position.

and no, neither of my cats has ever paid the slightest attention to the toilet paper, or the bathroom, for that matter, unless I enter the bathroom.

Cats seem under the distinct impression that humans are incapable of using the bathroom without feline supervision.

Old habits die hard - had a cat 35 years ago who used to sit on the toilet lid abd spin off an entire roll.

These days, I'm ecstatic if any one else puts on a new roll. One more thing I've learned to let go of.

or at least not one who likes to tear at the TP.

If you did you would know it is better to go under with it. The TP does not unroll as the cat claws on it and it makes less of a mess. It also seems to be less fun because they will lose interest and eventually stop clawing at it altogether.

I will admit a slight preference for over, but not much of one. I guess I am just not that anal.

Over, it must be over. Never, never under. That is wrong, just wrong. I don't know why it is wrong, but it is. If I see under, I immediately change it......it's as if the universe is off-kilter. Oh, dear.

My ex-lump (by the way, official as of March 1st of this year), absolutely freaked out over this issue of tissue...

For her it was under. Always, and here is why....

There was a register vent in the bathroom which would blow under the toilet paper. If you installed the paper over, the air from the floor register would unroll the entire roll of tissue onto the floor in a matter of 30 minutes.

She once screamed at my brother (8 years old at the time) for putting a roll of toilet paper over.

Ever since, I've always made it a point to put the toilet paper over and not under...

You'll never stay in a 3, 4, or 5-star hotel where the toilet paper is underneath or behind the roll and next to the wall where you have to reach for it.
