I think, in a lot of states, it's a reasonable time period thing.

reasonable ...

the young girl found her baby dead and didn't report it for some couple of hours...I am thinking, shock and grieving...

it was just a blurb but, made me wonder.

they brought forth charges.

feel for her...insult to injury kind of thing.

But if you don't call until the tea is thoroughly steeped and you've set yourself down for a relaxing cup of chamomile, the police will start to get suspicious.

When my mother died at home. But then she was already known to be dying, and hospice told us we could keep the body for three days before we were legally required to report her death.

It might be quite a bit different in cases of unexpected death. The coroner would need the body to be fairly fresh to determine manner and cause of death. I also expect this can vary from state to state.

Anything you say or do can and will be held against you in a court of law. You have the right to speak to an attorney. If you cannot afford an attorney, one will be appointed for you.
