Name more than one if you wish. Something that can and will lift the mood. It doesn't need to be a comedy, just a really happy movie that is totally enjoyable and uplifting.. Name more than one if you want,..
How about..."The Producers"..and "It Happened One Night"

Did you know that when it was performed on Broadway (before the film was made) that the husband sleeps with the blonde? When the film was made (because of all the codes), they had to make it innocent and chaste. Makes a big difference to the plot, though!
The Seven Year Itch" is a naive and innocent romantic comedy in accordance with the contemporary moral standards, but actually this feature tested the limits of censorship in a time when Hollywood was ruled by a rigid moral code. The story is based on a George Axelrod popular 1952 Broadway play about a man that has an affair with his upstairs neighbor. Unfortunately in the 50's, the American cinema did not have the same artistic freedom as theater. The screenplays and movies were submitted to the scrutiny of the powerful Hayes office, the censorship of Hollywood. There was a Production Code in Hollywood that stated that adultery should not be the subject of comedy or laughs, and this story violated the Code. Billy Wilder was fascinated by this story and purchased the rights of George Axelrod. However, to make the movie was a challenge for this great director, since many scenes and lines were ripped away by the censorship and by the National Legion of Decency, mutilating the plot.

(95,337 posts)It is the absolutely best college movie out there EVER!
I mean the kid came all the way from Delaware to visit the college campus.
And who else could think up of the 'Caine-Hackman Theory', which I think should be taugh in all schools instead of Evolution but that's just my two cents.
And there's George Clinton and Parliment. Could any movie ever go wrong that features George Clinton and Parliment.
Oh and in the end the uppity future Republicans of America get their asses whooped by a pre-frosh from Delaware.
Total Win.

Whiskey Galore is a British comedy that might not be entirely in line with contemporary sensibilities, but it's very funny. It takes place on a Scottish island during World War II, when everyone is glum because whiskey is rationed.

(4,056 posts)I just wanna state that everyone who razzes the 80s forgets the fabulous comedies we got to see back then. The 2 aforementioned and Trading Places are films I could watch again and again! To a lesser extent, "Coming to America" although that's very dated after 30 years.
I used to love Woody Allen's "Sleeper" as well. Silly and hilarious: but it wouldn't make me feel good now--any more than watching old reruns of "The Cosby Show" for obvious reasons!!
