My Programs Work!
For the past few months, I have been writing programs to fill up a portfolio to show prospective employers what I can do. They are written in HTML and JavaScript (with CSS and jQuery, but don't sweat these details). The job I want is to be a web developer so I have a restaurant menu and a partially completed doctor's office, but the crowning glories are a video poker game you play on your browser and a statistics program to analyze what you may be expected to win if you hold certain cards. This last one I finished just a few minutes ago (it needs the number output cleaned up, but that's window dressing).
The video poker is pretty slick, if I say so myself. It works just like the Deuces Wild video poker games you find in casinos, but better: mine has a cheat feature that shows you what cards you will get on the draw.
The stats program has you choose a 5 card hand to simulate a video poker game. Part 2 has you choose which of those cards you want to keep. The program comes back and tells you the expected payout. If you've ever wondered if you should hold 3 to a straight flush or that low pair, this is the program for you. When I study how to program for a mobile, this one will be it.
I've had the flu this week so I haven't been able to focus enough until today to work on them. When I get a webpage up with my handiwork, I will let everyone know. You can be my beta testers and the programmers among you can give me handy hints and suggestions.
Now I think I will take the rest of the afternoon off. Cheers!
