I don't know how to break this to you all gently

None of you were here tonight.

Tonight, my wife made for dinner:

A salad with Chinese winter cabbage in a teriyaki/ginger/Lemon/Garlic sauce

A veggie pan sauté in olive oil with zucchini, onions, marinated eggplant, broccoli and green olives

A sauté of diced chicken and onion slices in olive oil, cajun spice and a dash of Worcestershire sauce

For afterward: fresh (NOT canned!) mandarin orange slices and black tea sweetened with apricot marmalade.

The occasion? No occasion. She ALWAYS cooks like this (and she's 5'10" and weighs 130). For those who ask the legitimate question of why I don't weigh 475 pounds, all I can say is that there is still an arguable case for there being miracles (i.e. I don't understand it either).

But if she always cooks instead of stocking up on processed foods (or heaven forbid, "fast food&quot , that explains a lot of why you aren't 475 pounds.

Sounds delish.

My wife is from the flat farm country in the extreme northwest corner of Germany, near the Dutch border. We shop at the farmers market in our town square three times a week for our food. They've been doing it this way around here for the last 1200 years or so. Still works for us.

and sounds like you are doing that. Americans need to vastly increase their vegetable intake and vastly decrease their "other" intake.

Sounds like you both may have a metabolism similar to my Dad's, AND of course, all those 'good' foods, few carbs, that'll do it!!!

The Germans have about thirty different words for "bread," and with good reason!

(Even if "German chocolate cake" doesn't exist in Germany, and people here are thoroughly confused by the expression).

and Dad liked fresh bread every day. (HIS dad ran a NY deli, so he got used to it.) But his portions were always moderate, and tho dessert was required, always in moderation. None in the family were overweight.

My poor mother, however, didn't have the same metabolism, so she had to be careful. IMAGINE cooking for a slender man with definite requirements for fresh meals every day! I did feel sorry for her!

In the 1850s the American chocolate manufacturer Sam German developed a dark, baking chocolate used in the cake. It was originally called German's Chocolate Cake and was never intended to refer to the country. Just the guy. One of the earliest recipes was submitted to the Dallas Morning Star by a Dallas homemaker in the 1950s.

Which was invented by a chef whose last name was "French." Had nothing to do with France whatsoever.

Didn't stop the Republicans from coming up with "Freedom Toast" as an alternative, of course.

Which didn't stop US from coming up with this:

in front of the garage.

US Hawks (mostly Republicans) were furious when France refused to let US warplanes fly over their country during a certain undeclared war. We haven't heard much about "freedom toast" and "freedom fries" since France helped attack Moammar Gaddafi in a subsequent undeclared war (which led to the present mess in Libya).

Nice lyrics!
