I am bumping an old thread I started back in the summer of 2011. Got some very helpful advice but nothing really materialized. I did try Lionbridge but did not pass the 2 part quiz required. So, I thought I would just bump this to see if there are any success stories and if anyone can suggest any legitimate work at home jobs.
I constantly get these emails from 'Real Writing Jobs' and 'make 1,0000 in just 7 days. They usually want $30-$60 to get started and frankly,I don't trust any of these schemes. No matter how many I mark as SPAM I still get a couple sneak through into my email each week.
Any advice would be helpful!

(19,339 posts)I have a couple of long-term ongoing clients through them and have had successful one-off projects through them as well. I find that you get out of it what you put into it. What are your skills?

(30,947 posts)for my skills. I was a copy editor and have been seeking free-lance jobs.

(19,339 posts)About half of my work is editing and proofreading, and the other half is writing.

(47,675 posts)And yes, I work from home now. IT jobs at my level are few and far between. I prefer the home life so I can be here for the kids and give my wife a shoulder rub when she gets home from work.

(5,062 posts)Never heard of Elance. I worked for years as a Baker and in a supermarket Deli. I needed a change and quit and was selling antiques for a friend who had a Antique shop and could not go to shows,go out buying, etc.and sell so I sold for him online and made a steady income for a while. I am still doing that now but the income is not as steady as it was and he wants to sell his business and go into another field. I moved back in with my Mom and am trying to fix her house up so she get put it up for sale and thought a stay at home job would be perfect. I find I am willing to work more hours when at home. So, I am hoping I can find something even if part time at home. Thanks for post by the way!

(19,339 posts)"win" the contract. It can take a little while to win your first job, and you might have to lower your rates for a little bit to prime the pump. Do you have writing experience, or is it something you like to do?
I don't have writing experience. It's is something I enjoy though.I had never heard of elance and I doubt I would be qualified for any of the jobs.As I mentioned in my original thread, I knew a lady who worked for Ebay or Amazon. She answered emails and took calls from her home. I have no idea how she got the job or heard about it. She had no experience at the time. She said she went through some basic training and got the hang of it fast. I understand a job like that at first would not pat very well, which I am fine with and understand. I was just hoping to find something like that at home where I can work as many hours as I wish. Many thanks again for all the responses.

(9,291 posts)and then some other work at home sites. Liveops is real, i think you pay a few bucks for a background check. After that, you put in whatever hours you want and get paid every two weeks. Then have never missed a pay period and I've been with them for over 4 years.

(13,661 posts)do you DO at liveops? The descriptions are so vague I have no idea what they hire for; what do you do with them?
I thought the same thing and I spent some time on each position they had offered. Independent Agents, Advance ales Agent, Licensed Insurance Agent,Outbound Agent, etc. I think I am going to fill out an application anyway.
I filled out the application and got this response.
'Thank you for considering LiveOps as a vehicle to generate income for your business.
Unfortunately, LiveOps will not be able to qualify your business at this time since we are not currently qualifying Independent Agents from your state.
We will keep your information on file and review it at a later date should we start qualifying agents from your state.
LiveOps wishes your business much success in its future ventures.
Respectfully,
The Join LiveOps Team'
So, I guess searching for other jobs would be a waste of time since they are not looking for anyone in my state.

(5,062 posts)I never heard of Liveops but I am going to look into it. I just hope I am qualified. I never finished college and I am finding most of these work from home jobs require some sort of degree. Many thanks for the info.
