Truck with 30,000 pounds of lobster overturns on I-95

BENTON — Maine state police say a tractor-trailer hauling 30,000 pounds of live lobster overturned in a crash on I-95 in Benton.

Troopers say the driver, Horst Puff of Greenfield, Nova Scotia, told them he swerved early Wednesday to avoid striking a car that had spun out in front of him. The truck ended up on its side in the median; he wasn't hurt.

State police spokesman Steve McCausland said the fate of the lobsters is not known.

A crane was dispatched to get the truck upright so the cargo could be inspected. He said one of the southbound lanes was closed because of the crash.

In unrelated news, Maine State Police sent out invitations Wednesday to a private dinner that is rumored to promise a delicious menu.

Years and years and years ago, there was a SNL about a giant lobster attacking New York. Can't find it now but I remember the drawn butter joke.

Mainer's often use it that way, and I think 30,000 lbs qualifies.

Tempers won't be the only thing boiling! I'd say somebody's career is tanked. Only question is, who's going to feel the pinch? Maybe the tail's going to be wagging the dog?

You don't want to say the wrong thing and get caught by a sucker punch. You'll get laid on the deck, flat as a mackerel... Kelpless.

Then we'll have to call the Cods AND a Sturgeon

You say "HI GILL!"

You have to yell, he's hard of herring.

He works down at the Sand Bar. Makes one hell of a rusty snail, hold the grunion, shaken not stirred

A tractor-trailer hauling a load of potatoes caught fire on eastbound I-295 at the Landers spur Thursday morning, halting traffic, according to the New Castle County fire board.

The fire started at 6:18 a.m., closing all lanes of eastbound traffic. By 7:32, the fire was declared under control, officials said.

Holloway Terrace and Minquadale fire companies responded.

The left two lanes on I-295 at Landers Lane have been re-opened; two lanes remained closed, according to Delaware Memorial Bridge on Twitter.
