Sam Shepherd and Ben Mendelsohn (whom I've never seen in anything before - holy crap he's terrific in this show).
Was a riveting, very good 13-episode mystery/drama set in the Florida Keys.
If you haven't watched it, I recommend it -- takes an episode or three to get hooked, but once you're hooked, it's great.

(56,912 posts)thanks for the heads-up. I will put it in my queue.
Guess what ... I have a feral cat of my own now. I am going to try and catch/trap him and get him to the vet.
He has let me stroke his back twice now as he eats.

(13,661 posts)I've had time to read some Lounge threads but not post - I saw that about your handsome tux boy! (Any photos yet?) So glad he is mellowing.
Also just read (in your Lane Pryce thread) that you'd been very ill - I'm so sorry to hear that, but relieved you are well now.
I'm hopefully going to catch Jack tonight or tomorrow to get him checked out, neutered, etc. I haven't wanted to catch him until now bc it's been so chilly out at night still (and he's going to have to spend the night in the trap outside - he'll be on a heating pad and covered, but I just couldn't do that to him when it was still in the 30s at night.
I really enjoyed Bloodline - they left open the possibility for a 2nd season but even as just a standalone mini-series, it's (IMO) fantastic. The setting is gorgeous and idyllic but the family tensions will keep you interested.

(56,912 posts)Pictures uploaded with all that has been going on. Thanks for the good wishes. I am going to watch the first episode of Bloodline tonight when I get home from work. Have you seen Mad Men? You might like it.

(13,661 posts)I missed some of the earlier episodes in seasons 1&2 but have watched regularly since season 3 or so. Will be sad to see them go; I wish my mom had lived long enough to see this final set of 7 (she died last October; she enjoyed MM and Downton Abbey sooo much; we'd rehash the episodes the next day so tonight is going to be hard for me).
Anyway, give Bloodline a few episodes to get going - it's a slow start but I think it will grab you a few hours in. I was hooked from the start bc of the acting / actors and the scenery, but the tension doesn't really start to boil until a bit later on. Let me know what you think.

(56,912 posts)I will probably like Bloodline, too.
My condolences on your mother. May she rest in peace.

(21,910 posts)I was looking to see if there was a thread about Bloodline as I have just started watching it.
I noticed you mention feral cats. I have been watching this incredible Livestream Video of Sisko - she is a feral, about to give birth any day (maybe today?). Watch it if you are interested here:
(p.s. am enjoying Bloodline so far - 3 episodes in).

(13,661 posts)Meg - took me a while to place her - but she was Sylvia Rosen on Mad Men (the woman Don had an affair with in his building while married go Megan).
She looks entirely different with long hair and modern clothes!
I thought the actor who played Danny (Ben Mendelsohn) was riveting. I could never decide until some of the final scenes if he would be able to overcome the bitterness and anger or if he was just beyond any type of forgiveness. He played "ambiguous" perfectly. And I still can't decide if he was born shifty, or if he was made shifty by the shit his family piled on him.

(153,209 posts)Ben Mendelsohn is Aussie; check out his real accent:
I believe trauma made his character turn bad but that he still retained a sliver of his former self; for example, I knew he would never really harm his niece - he was all about revenge on the folk he felt - well, the folk he KNEW had turned their backs....also, his distress over the deaths of the teen immigrants was real

(13,661 posts)it, he picked at complete random another Netflix movie bc Anthony Hopkins was in it ("Spotswood" from the early 90s) and a VERY young Ben Mendelsohn and Russell Crowe and Toni Colette were in it, too. Full of Aussies. Also supposed to be one of Rupert Murdoch's favorite movies. Lol.
Yeah, I knew Danny wasn't a killer ... but he was very ominous at times. Poor kid. You wonder why the whole family turned on him, though.
Edit: thanks for the clip; it took a while for my computer to load it.

I like stories that take a while to unfold, especially when the acting is excellent and the scenery beautiful.

the rec in this OP and came back to say thanks for the rec and someone posted a spoiler??? Thanks a lot.
Maybe a SPOILER ALERT should be added up top??
Flaxbee
(13,661 posts)and I didn't think about it until this morning.
I hope you keep watching - still very good, IMO
I'm one of those weird people who reads the ends of books when I'm only a few pages in, and looks for reviews of shows before I watch them (I like to know what is going to happen).

(51,308 posts)So I really looked forward to it.
I barely made it through the first episode. I found it disjointed and stupid. Nothing really made any sense.
And then they really lost me when they referred to "gators' in the Keys. There are no gators in the Keys. Crocodiles have been spotted rarely in the Keys, but no gators.
Does it get better after the first episode? I'm a fan of many of the actors, so I was very disappointed.
Flaxbee
(13,661 posts)and didn't like the inconsistencies / inaccuracies, and also found it jumped around too much.
It does get more cohesive, though, so if you can ignore writer errors, you might like it.
As I mentioned in the original post, it does take a few episodes to get going....

(18,497 posts)I've re-watched episodes a number of times just to see what I missed the first time.
Ben Mendelsohn is the best thing about the show. And I'd not ever heard of him either even though the rest of the cast has very familiar faces.
He does look very much like Gary Oldman.
Flaxbee
(13,661 posts)I thought his performance was just riveting. One of the reviews I read said if he wasn't on the Emmys, etc., lists when award season came around it would be a travesty.
