Also, I need a jar like this

(10,998 posts)Cook hulled barley:
1 cup hulled (with the hull) barley
2 cups water
Don't use any oil or spices
Bring to boil, turn down to simmer 45 minutes
1 qt container Pacifica organic vegetable broth or any broth of your choosing
Spices: 1 tsp celery seed, 1 tsp good salt, 1 tsp lemon pepper, dash turmeric, sage and thyme
1/2 cup cooking wine
2 cups frozen mixed vegetables (I use costco organics)
2 tomatoes, diced
1 zucchini, diced
Handful spinach, thinly slice strips
1 can black beans, drained and rinsed
1 cup cooked barley
Cook together broth, spices, wine, frozen vegetables, tomatoes for about half hour. Add zucchini cook another 15 mins. Add spinach, black beans, barley until warmed up about 10 mins. Serve. Eat.
It's very flavorful and hearty. Served over a baked potato is delicious. Even good chilled. You get your whole protein and lots of vegetables without any chemicals and additives. It's quick and easy to prepare.

(25,816 posts)That means I can use more butter. And sea salt. And... I quit popcorn because the hulls stuck in my teeth, but I may relapse.
I'll go for an epic type movie, the longer, the more popcorn.

(43,191 posts)There's a scene where the spaceships have come to earth and are hovering over New York, DC and other cities, but before they attack.
Jeff Goldblum's character, who's in New York, finds out the alien's "countdown", and at that time there's about four hours left before the aliens attack. He decides to rush home, find his dad and use his car to drive to DC to warn his ex-wife and the President about the countdown. I'm sure that at least took a half hour to do in and of itself.
Somehow he and his dad are able to drive out of New York where I'm sure millions of other people are also attempting to flee, drive over 200 miles down to DC (all while Goldblum's character is remarking how slow his dad's old car is) and arrive at the White House with roughly a half hour to spare to warn the President, who is able to then helicopter out to Andrews Air Force base, get Air Force One up and running, and they manage to take off just in the nick of time as the aliens blow up DC.
I'm sorry, but in real life, Jeff Goldblum would have been lucky to have crossed the George Washington Bridge by the time the alien's countdown expired.
But I guess the entire suspension of disbelief is what makes that movie so great and enjoyable.
LynneSin
(95,337 posts)I mean even if all the highways were totally abandoned I highly doubt anyone could make NYC to the White House in 4 hours. The traffic patterns in DC alone are a nightmare.

(95,337 posts)That city is a nightmare to navigate. I've driving down a oneway street and suddenly it no longer is going the way I am going but it is one way the OTHER way.
Whomever designed the layout of DC deserves to be tortured. That city is a nightmare.
