(12,132 posts)I'm getting a kilt made for the next Highland games. My cell phone background image is Buchanan clan plaid.
I want to get a tattoo that incorporates the tartan but I'm not sure if tattoo artists will do it. I hear plaid is a pain in the ass....

(12,132 posts)BTW, if you use Firefox, there is a Clan Buchanan personality (skin) too - a couple of them actually...Although my wife thinks I go a little overboard on all the plaid stuff - but what does she know? Her people are Brits. lol
She put her foot down when I started wondering aloud about how difficult it would be to paint the car with Buchanan tartan...

I might put one on this
but only if it's non-destructive (to the car) to remove

(34,136 posts)Maybe the Avery car wrap. I'd go with a reputable brand - if it is the same Avery that makes mailing labels, they would know adhesives.
Is that a GTO?

(12,132 posts)he bought it new in 65 and has kept it in pretty original condition....i prolly shouldn't eff with it lol. But man that would be fun to roll up on the Highland games in that covered in Buchanan plaid.
That paint is the original factory color but it's been repainted many times over the years. He just always gets the same color. The air cleaner cover got stolen in the 80s when he had it in for a tune-up. The original wire wheel covers are in the trunk. It had been sitting in his garage for the last 15 years or so but about 2 years ago he took it out to a mechanic friend of his and has been having the engine rebuilt. The rest of the interior and stuff is original and in pretty darn good shape. I took that pic a couple weeks ago after he got it back from the mechanic and we drove it around the neighborhood for a little while. It was a mighty sweet ride.
I remember my grandma taking me to the grocery store in that car when I was 4 or 5. My uncle learned to drive in it and used it when he was at FSU in the early 70s.
So anyway, grandpa plans to get it out a couple times a week to keep it in good shape. And I can come over and help with that lol. Which I damn sure will.

(34,136 posts)I wish my Dad had kept good care of his old cars. But my family tends to use vehicles to death.
Whenwas your brother at FSU? I came up here in 1972 and never left. Finally got my degree in1977 and stuck around. The land and the people are nicer here than down in Polk County where I grew up.
First post with my new tablet! I gotta get a keyboard for this thing.

(12,132 posts)and it would have been early 70s. Actually, I never thought about the time line.
I was born in 63 - my mom and dad met at FSU while they were both going there and my Grandpa was getting his master's there.
I distinctly remember being 6 or 7 and staying and Grandma and Grandpa's for the summer when my Uncle came home from school but I have no idea if he was in his first or last or in the middle year...so he was there in 69~70...he could easily have been there at the time you were there. He was 5 or 6 years younger than my dad...
He was that long haired guy who liked Pink Floyd.
Oh and I believe the GTO was born from the Lemans so you weren't really that far off...

(12,132 posts)REALLY old school Scots might raise an eyebrow however there is no real practical restriction on who may wear the plaid or which one they wear.
At least, that's how I read it as an American who just has a Scottish last name and is interested Scottish history. True Scotsmen may tell you different.
*NB: The places I've read this are also places that want to sell me a kilt so maybe they have a vested interest in not limiting potential sales. lol
