Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsGame of Thrones - did Kit Harington just drop a big spoiler?
But on Tuesday, The Huffington Post sat down with Harington, and he let a new detail slip. The British actor told us how much he looks forward to taking a break soon saying, "Im disappearing off the face of earth after publicity for ['Testament of Youth'], which will be really nice." Just to be sure, we asked if he would be taking time off before he returns to the set of "GoT," which he said shoots from July to December each year. "If I start filming 'Thrones,'" Harington said (the emphasis his own). "I cant tell you if I do."
book spoilers at the link - be warned.

(20,176 posts)I think it's meant to be a teaser for those who are casual fans and haven't really read the books or thought about the theories. Which is to say it's the opposite of a spoiler as much as a teaser can be.
They're clearly building towards a specific big scene with him in the season finale. I think Weiss and Benioff are planning on using that as a big season-ending cliffhanger so he would have been told to drop ambiguity about it into media requests. There are a lot of people who are going to see it and because of the history of the show, read that act at face-value.

(12,029 posts)and a child born of that rape? This would make him a half-brother to Dany, wouldn't it? And of royal blood. This is driving me crazy.
I'm guessing that we'll learn the truth about Jon Snow's heritage when a dragon tries to fry him and he doesn't burn...

(12,029 posts)which would make Jon Snow (if he's Lyanna son) a half-brother of Danaerys. And maybe immune to dragon fire. I'm thinking of a huge battle scene at the end with the dragons, and one of them blows fire at Jon -- and he survives! That would be an amazing revelation to all.
Then he and Dany would rule the kingdom as brother and sister. The two most pure and ethical people of all the cast.
Not that George RR Martin needs my input. But c'mon, George.

(20,176 posts)A lot of people think this revelation will be them teaming-up but I expect it to lead to conflict.

(90,787 posts)But then Jon would have to prove a marriage took place. Which I think can happen - through Howland Reed and Lyanna's crypt.
I don't take it as a given that the 2 will become a team. GRRM is a wee bit perverse and cruel to his readers.

(56,829 posts)if he is Rhaegar and Lyanna's child, unless Rhaegar invoked the old Targaryen law about having more than one wife... (which, I think they had stopped doing for a few centuries?) I'm pretty sure Jon was born before The Mountain killed Elia Martell and her two children.

(90,787 posts)Wasn't Ned in King's Landing when they died and then he traveled south? After fighting with Robert over their murders?
It had to take a several weeks to reach the TOJ - he stopped at Storm's End first - and I don't think she laid in a "bed of blood" waiting that long. I think, maybe, Jon was born just before his uncle's arrival.
And I also don't think Rhaegar, as caught up in the myth as he was, would hesitate to marry Lyanna.
Recall how Rhaegar read that he was supposed to be a great warrior, so he became one?
What if he was reading about the Lord of Light? Or about the next war with the White Walkers? Or some other book written by some long ago Maester?

(4,138 posts)Swipe to read - > Lyanna and Rhaegar are almost certainly Jon's parents, and it was probably an affair rather than rape. Abduction and rape is King Roberts take on the situation, but he's hardly a reliable POV on the matter. Jon would be Dany's nephew. You can google R+L=J for exhaustive discussion, but most of the actual in-book clues are in Ned Stark's later chapters in "A Game of Thrones".

(56,829 posts)yes, when I read the books a second time many years later, it was pretty obvious when you put the Eddard chapters together. There is a bit more in the book version of the House of the Undying as well.
