Has anyone told them that it's a bad idea to have unidentifiable items on a dinner plate? And that 'congealed' isn't a word that should spring to mind when marketing their food?

The owner of the restaurant is the same way. He has another place in town and posts these poorly-lit, out-of-focus selfies of the food and thinks they are the bee's knees.

There is, however, no need for scare quotes. Just because the photos are bad, does not mean the person who took them is somehow not a photographer. He or she is a photographer - a really bad photographer.

and think about whether they'd actually want to eat that stuff? The burger and fries look like they were just tossed on the plate with lettuce and tomatoes falling out of the bun. The food isn't even centered on the plate. In the second photo you can't even identify that thing in front of the sad little blob of mashed potatoes. The far edge of the piece of salmon is out of focus. The third photo is especially horrible because the sauce looks congealed. And there's another one of those unidentifiable things next to the baked potato, which is also out of focus. All done with harsh flash lighting.

Whoever took these pictures should have his camera confiscated. This restaurant will go out of business if too many people see these photos.

If it is, it looks like a SLICE, not a HALF, and if those are bread crumbs on top, they're the wrong color...like everything else in the shot.

Doing it by the slice is very weird, but it seems to be their 'go-to' side because isn't that also one on the top of the shrimp plate?

Speaking of plates, they need news ones, because the pattern is wearing off on the edges.

The portions in this place follow the policy of the owner's other restaurant...they are ridiculously small. I've never heard of one tomato slice as a "side" unless maybe it's smothered in truffles and Beluga caviar. Then I can see serving only one.

I think it might be an end piece of tomato, you know how the first and last slice is always smaller than the middle slices. While I'm glad they're not wasting slices, personally, I would use those bits to chop up and put on the burgers. Although, having said that, chopped tomato on a sandwich is also weird because it will just fall out when you pick up the burger.

Maybe it's not a side, maybe it's a garnish? If so, they took their pop of color and smothered it in beigeness.

Poor restaurant, they're trying, but they're making some odd choices.

I mean, it really doesn't look appetizing at all (and somebody's obviously taking bites of the fries!)

The purpose of these pictures is supposed to entice you to the restaurant, not scare you away.

Please post more of your food porn shots!

except for the pizzas. They have raw onions on them and I hate onions. The photos are great, though.

...the top one is a pizza place in a strip mall (top photos), the other is a fancy "sit-down" Italian restaurant.

The strip mall guy was a real stickler for quality...he had me take a shot of his "ingredients bay" to show the quality.

BUT...the "fancy sit down guy" is Italian, who came here from Italy, and it was a "family restaurant" that he built when he arrived, and will get handed down to his daughter, who runs the place. 100% authentic recipes across the boards.

The strip mall guy is Hispanic and makes a mean pizza and calzone, but you couldn't explain to him why it killed his "authenticity factor" to put pepperoni on his Marghertita Pizza. His response was "but people LIKE it..." When I did these photos, I did post them on DU for feedback. I think pretty much all of them have been on DU previously. And when folks saw the "Margherita"...which I didn't include this time...they went nuts. "A MARGHERITA PIZZA DOES NOT HAVE PEPPERONI ON IT!" And I shared the owner's response. The customer is always right, even when they aren't. That's his only misstep...his other food is reasonably authentic and he makes one hell of a pizza (fresh fough, fresh EVERYTHING).

But I'm not sure that's a tomato slice and I'm not sure the "butter" is butter. You'd think the unrecognizable food would at least have captions to identify what's plated.

you have to look past the horrible presentation to see it. At first glance, I'd have moved on to another restaurant; these don't draw me in at all.

Symmetric and tidy layouts, odd-looking portion amounts, newer plates, matching portion size to plate, lighting, ... lot of problems here.

...the one complaint I do have with the burger is that it looks like he's using lowest-of-low-rent lettuce. Sometimes it will get that wilted, shiny spoiled look because of the heat of the burger. Other times it looks that way because it should have been thrown out two days ago. Looks like a decent enough beef patty, ciabatta roll, tomatoes, cheese.

This guy owns one other restaurant in town. I have not eaten at THIS one, but have at the OTHER one. He's got a few issues. Small portions and high prices for one, ridiculously salty food, and once I went for their "Meat Loaf Wednesday." It was a slab of meat loaf with instant mashed potatoes drowning in salty brown gravy. Meat loaf was raw in the middle. I sent it back. They were OK with me leaving without paying since I didn't eat a bite.
