Stem cell transplants and federal disability -- sorry for such a serious topic but I need help --

(FYI, I also have posted this in the Health subgroup and in the Idaho state forum.)

A close family member has had a relapse of Non-Hodgkins lymphoma and will be getting a stem cell transplant after a grueling course of chemo this summer.

Have any of you ever applied for (successfully) federal disability resulting from a stem cell transplant? It seems that having an SCT is one of the automatic qualifiers for disability but I'm going to be navigating these waters to help my family member try to manage the finances of this cancer juggernaut ... and any helpful advice would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks.
