June 30th Prednisone Support Group: I call it the Housekeeping Drug!

Any one else on these satanic roids today?

I can barely type and I have 3 more days to go.

But the good news is the house has never been cleaner.

I've never reacted to poison ivy before, and I've been clearing weeds in this spot in my backyard for 8 years. I didn't even look for the stuff and now I'm paying for it, big time.

Holy crap, this is no fun.

I could run up and down the steps with no pain for the first time in years. Unfortunately, they don't let you stay on it very long.

I had to take it for a hornet sting that inflated my face like a dodgeball.

Burst and tapers are the best. Ya can't sleep for sh*t, but ya get a lot done. BTW, poison ivy reactions tend to get worse as we get older. It's miserable, absolutely miserable. I feel for you, lindaysalsagal. Hang in.

This totally sucks. I'm on the one a day and I'm taking it vewwry early in the morning. It's dinnertime now, and the thing is wearing off a little. I can almost type now. But I have to admit, it's taking the spots away.

Thanks for the sympathy. I'm hiring a gardner: I am never going into those weeds AGAIN!

Wishing you a speedy recovery! I KNOW it sucks; been there done that--several times. I swear I can simply be in the vicinity of PI or PO and I break out. Never again. Much rather pay a gardener.

5 mg/day.

I must be immune to any energizing effects - I would never be suddenly motivated to do lots of housework. It would interfere with my afternoon nap!

Was on it for a few weeks, tapered.
I had terrible mood swings, couldn't sleep, and then suffered withdrawals when I went off it.
When I was on it, I was flying high one minute, and then I was curled up in the fetal position, an emotional wreck the next minute. Terrible, terrible side effects, imo. But it did clear up the reason why I was prescribed it.

I can't figure out why it gets less and then worse: sometimes the only thing that works is ice, which I don't understand at all.

I am never going into those weeds again.

Pred and I are in a long-term relationship. It started in January, but unless they come up with something else for my particular problem, It's a life time commitment. I'm just starting to taper down this week. I hope no one gets on my case, or if they do, it's a derserving teabagger. Not gonna be pretty. Fun, maybe, but not pretty.

I was on a high dose intended to last maybe 10 days. It messed with my head so much - it seemed like I felt agitated and mellow at once. It also made my bones hurt. I begged the M.D. to cut the dose, which he did, but I counted the days till I was off it.

Since then when I get bronchitis I've had to take the so-called "chest pack" consisting of maybe 8-10 preds at once, and weaning off by taking 1 pill less each dose afterwards. That regime is easy to take.

A good chunk of my 20's were spent dealing with similar issues, except I only ever took inhaled steroids. I got so afraid of catching a cold because I knew it would turn into a chest thing, and then terrifying asthma attacks. It's a lot of misery.

As I got older, the whole pattern seemed to dissipate until it eventually stopped happening altogether. I hope it will be that way for you too.

in my late 30's it may not just fade away. I'm maintained on inhaled steroids and it's well-controlled. However, ever since I got asthma, head colds almost always turn into bronchitis. Never happened before i got asthma. I take Cold-EEZ zinc lozenges like crazy to try to keep it out of my chest, with varying degrees of success. Prednisolone is a great drug but geez the side effects will drive you up the wall.

When my mom had Bell's Palsy she was put on a burst and taper of prednisone and she WOULD...NOT...STOP...cleaning her house. And the funny thing was, that was so not her. She was, ahem, not the domestic type. She was more the glamor girl/night life type. It was a bit mind-blowing for my siblings and me to watch. I remember her doctor asking me to bring her to his house so she could clean it.

I hope you feel better lindysalsagal, and here's to being off the 'roids very soon.

I should consider myself lucky- This will be a week and hopefully it's over.

But it is 50mg-

I think I'm better off with this one a day 50mg, cause I can let it wear off tonight- It already has to a large extent.

The taper off thing was so bad, I couldn't get through 3 days without heart palpitations.
Take care, all of you asthma sufferers. Gotta be even worse than this.

that can clear it up. Old country doctor once gave me a syringe of it for my husband, who had a really bad case of poison oak.
Cleared it up overnight. I could kick myself for not writing down name of it.

while on 'the rocket' (as he called it) did some midnight repair work on the supercharger on his truck, rebuilt the front deck of his house and stained it, built a rock retaining wall (I think this was at night, too) and probably came up with a cure for cancer and then forgot it when he came off the meds...
