about my computer. I listened to the woman who had a very heavy Indian accent, go through her little introductory spiel about how they were receiving reports that my computer is infected, and I said, "No it's not." There was perhaps 30 seconds of silence, then she hung up.
Wow. That was amazingly easy.
Lately I've been getting these calls slightly more often.

(16,230 posts)She tells them that she doesn't have a computer and they hang up. So that's all you really have to do.

(5,946 posts)still they persist. I finally bought a big whistle, the loudest they have, but have not had the courage to use it yet.

(4,019 posts)I think he felt pretty sure he was being scammed but he suddenly handed the phone to me because he said he couldn't understand the lady. It took me a minute or so to figure out what was going on, and I was quite rude to that lady once I did.

(1,965 posts)As well as almost every other imaginable BS annoyance call. Asking to be removed from their calls lists has proved to be a waste of time as have repeated reports/complaints to the National Do Not Call List.
Now we've taken to simply not answering calls from numbers we don't recognize or from calls that have the numbers blocked. Those calls are answered after 4 rings by our fax machine, with its squeals and squals.

(26,328 posts)I tell them I have to go downstairs and reboot the computer several times. It takes a looooooong time to reboot (while I do some real work).
Them: "No no no, don't reboot again! "
Me: "what did you say while I was rebooting ?"
Me : "Oh sorry. This is all too stressful. I'm going to throw the fucking thing in the trash"
Them: " that won't wok because now your phone line is infected"
Me: "fuck off"

(4,788 posts)I either tell them they are full of shit and hang up, or, if I'm feeling generous, tell them I'll alert my IT department, thank you and good bye.

(37,457 posts)Paraphrased, "I never asked these cold-call salespeople to call me". Which is 100% true, except these are vile criminals. Hanging up is the least rude thing I can possibly do to unsolicited sales calls or scam calls, because I'd probably say something rude if I tried to get off the phone with my usual politeness.
