http://www.thrillist.com/drink/nation/keurig-coffee-problems-sustainable-coffee-choices?share=c"Sure, convenience is king. But, if Lear taught us anything, it's that sometimes it's not good to be king. Like if it involves destroying your kingdom's environment, or consuming far inferior products than your serfs who have an extra three minutes to spend brewing their coffee.
Point being, the easiest way to make coffee isn't necessarily the best. And while K-Cup coffee is the ultimate in caffeinated convenience, for the average joe drinker it's probably worth a few more minutes to enjoy a quality beverage. Don't believe me? Here are 12 mostly serious reasons why you should consider quitting K-Cups."

(26,347 posts)Because most people are too lazy to clean/maintain the coffee pot.
I like them in some businesses I frequent. My veterinarian has one and so does the paint shop I frequent.
I would never pour myself a cup of God-knows-what and god-knows-how-long the pot coffee has been burning on the burner. But I now enjoy a cup of fresh brewed while I'm waiting for the vet or a paint order.

(55,026 posts)it was just another eye-rolling reaction to another fad-following relative. "products" that consist primarily of un-reusable packaging piss me off.
I have six of these. That way if I have guests they can try a different flavor coffee (I have about 3-5 different flavors at any given time in my house). All are dishwasher safe and I've had them for about 2 years now.
I never made my own coffee because Mr. Coffee Machines just never gave me the great cup of coffee I could get from my local WaWas. K-Cup machines was the first time I figured out a way to brew a great cup of coffee for myself but I hated those Kcups. When I discovered the resuable Kcup filters I got myself a machine and a 6pack and I'm a happy camper.
I have a few Kcups at home, gifts from family and what not. They are ok but I wouldn't waste money on them.

(95,337 posts)I have resusable K-cups which I love. So for me when I drink coffee I can use my favorite brand of regular ground coffee (Trader Joe's Teaberry) and just resuse the same filter over and over and over again. I think I have a few Kcups leftover from when I first bought the machine but I rarely use them anymore and don't buy them at all.
It's a total win all around. I just found using regular coffee machines the consistency was never the same and I ended up always wasting most of the coffee.

Mine, a cheap Hamilton Beach thing, came with a screen insert replacing the cup punching thing so I can use my own coffee.
I did buy a box of 80 k-cups on sale for 20 bucks at Christmas Tree Shops, but the coffee wasn't the best and while it brought the price down, not down enough to do it again.

Local farmers market has a Kcup machine that sells the Kcups by the singles. Once in a blue moon I might but 3-4 to try them but I haven't found anything I like as much as Trader Joe's Peaberry or Wholefood's Mocha

(5,364 posts)I know they have their fans. I know it's convenient, makes a good cup of coffee, and it kinda' looks cool and modern and all that. But I don't want a cup...a cup...a cup: I want a big goddamn pot full of coffee when I start the day.

Guess what that was about...
Anyway, aside from describing the pain and hazards of lugging an extra 4.2kg of tissue around, the largest cup size mentioned was MM. That woman was not happy at all. Not only couldn't she jog, she couldn't swim.
And, ummm... I don't know how long it took them, but they found two of the hottest doctors in the British Isles to discuss the problem. They even had good teeth.

(20,222 posts)but we have one at the office. I like it because I like my coffee strong, so I choose a dark roast. My biggest gripe is that I wish they would make them out of something biodegradable.
