I wanted the little darker orange one, but it's the runt and the owner is keeping it for herself.

because that means "red". He was so funny. He had a thing for smells. I used lay in my bed reading, on my back and propped up on one of those wedge pillows. He wasn't a lap cat but he would jump up and lay along side me and stick his nose right in my armpit. He'd just leave it there as long as I would let him.

My new one is red tabby with a lot of white. He has yellow eyes and head butts me to say hello. So his name is Butter.

Now they get their tummies tattooed so as not to make the same mistake again, at least in my area. And we've seen the opposite too: take a cat to be spayed, and the vet can't find anything.

Blessings/Good thoughts to your new friend and his siblings.

In my area, they use three green dots, vertically down the tummy. For different kitty gangs, I guess?

If you're in or close to Texas, I'm fostering two who need homes. Peanut is 1-2 yrs old, and Duke is 8. Duke comes with his 18-year-old buddy (sad story).

But I'm in Florida and that's a long way for a cat.

I've pretty much decided to wait until my current cat is gone to adopt again. He's 13 or 14 and still doing great but I'm planning ahead.

I used to think he'd kill any other cat we took in but he was very tolerant of the semi-feral we adopted. That cat disappeared, and that is part of the reason I will wait. Tashi insists on going outside but my next cat (or cats) will be strictly indoor ones. Once Tashi is gone I can close up the cat doors and limit their access to the outside to the screened porch and the upstairs deck.

If I were ready to adopt I would seriously consider Duke and his friend. I'm a sucker for a Siamese!

I am sure there will be a Duke ready for you, even if not this one. Probably there will be one near to you, but we have a volunteer who works for Southwest and transports kitties for us on her days off. If it's in Texas, there's the Underground Kitty Railroad ready to get your cat to you. But I know there's cats in need in Florida too.

They are owner-surrendered, as in "I'm done with these cats. I've got to move on." Probably not their first owner, but their most significant owner was a young vet tech. Knowing the way things go around vet's offices, I'm betting that she rescued these two, definitely the Siamese first, and probably Duke as a kitten or at least very young. She committed suicide at age 34. Her tombstone reads "Animal Lover." I can hardly imagine the pain she must have been in to leave her beloved pets behind. Her fiancé promised to care for them forever. By his clock, that's 5 years. I know they were painful reminders for him. But when he dropped them off, they were dehydrated, with scruffy, matted fur. I asked him to bring some reminders of home for them, like bed or toys; he brought half a bag of food and their carriers. When I brought out toy mice, they acted like it was Christmas. At 18 and 8, they were rolling on the floor, batting the toys, like they'd never had such fun. They're thrilled to be brushed and petted. I could go on, but, yeah, they needed somebody else to care for them because nobody was. I had blood work done--they hadn't seen a vet in almost 2 years--and the old guy has a slight thyroid condition, but both vets who have seen them have remarked that they're very healthy for their supposed ages, no doubt due to the good care they had early in life. Anyway, I took them because no one else was, and I'm not real hopeful about finding an adopter, but I will try for awhile and in the mean time, just love them as much as possible.

I know you'll take care of your new guy forever. That warms my heart.
