It's baaaaaaack.

It’s baaaaaack. That would be my electronics-obsessed poltergeist thingie. In the past it has messed with light covers, causing detachment and a slow-drop to the floor.

More recently (as in a couple of years ago) it focused on the television; on one occasion I came home to find a still photograph taking up the entire TV screen, unknown people, and the machine was definitely off; the picture disappeared when I hit the “on” switch.

Another time, I woke up hearing voices in the living room; when I went in there, the voices were apparently dialogue from a TV show, but again, the television was off. Like with the still photo, it stopped when I hit the “on” switch.

This morning I woke up to an annoying buzzing that sounded like it was coming from outside. As I went to look out the window I walked by my Casio keyboard and noted the sound getting louder. I keep it covered, and admit to keeping bits of correspondence on top of it since it hasn’t been played since the holidays. But, what the heck, I shifted the mail and removed the cover, to find that the switch was in the “on” position; this isn’t a button that just requires a gentle push, it’s more like a light switch that has to be flipped.

Okay, little poltergeist, you’ve had your fun. Move along, now.

He responded by regaling me with tales of events that had happened in his house.

I would take some pictures of the images first, never know what it might be trying to tell you.

Having had some interesting ghost interactions - I know, some will think I'm full of it but they were witnessed by others so I think they were not all in my head - I have discovered that if you find out what they want and address it somehow, they will go away. Example: One day I was in a bookstore that had books on strange topics, ghosts being one of them, I kept finding books on ghosts that caught my attention. I spent some time looking at one particular book that had photos of ghosts from the 1800s, which I found fascinating and creepy at the same time. When I was finally able to put it back on the shelf, the owner/clerk struck up a conversation with me about the topic. I expressed an interest in the topic as I had had some experiences that convinced me that such phenomena exist. After a few more minutes she indicated that she thought that there was a ghost in the store and asked if I could "see" it. The store was in one of the original settlement buildings - a ranch house from the early 1800s or earlier (was in a S. California town near the Mexican border where settlements were established in the 18th and 19th centuries) which had a beautiful old hearth/fireplace with the cooking rods still functional and well kept. The store owner said there seemed to be a "presence around the fireplace and had been noticed by others as well. I sat on the hearth for a moment and closed my eyes, a few seconds later I saw an Indian woman, sort of like a transparent image but that moved and spoke. She said her Indian name, which I can't recall and couldn't pronounce even when she said it but that the ranchers called her "Elena". I asked her why she was there. She told me she was just doing her job, though her description sounded like she was a slave, and that she didn't know where everyone else went. I asked how long they had been gone. She said it was a very long time but she would make food if they came back. I told her that they weren't coming back and that she could go home to her family now and that she was free to go home. She smiled and put on some kind of wrap and thanked me then disappeared.

When I opened my eyes, the store owner was amazed, said she saw her too and was glad for "Elena" to finally figure out she could go home but kind of sad to have only just figured out that she wasn't scary and now she was gone.

I went back a couple times to see if Elena had ever been noticed by anyone after that, she hadn't but the store was seeing more business since that event.

So I think if you can identify who is trying to tell you something and you can let them know it's okay to "go" they will and you won't have the strange happenings afterward. All life is energy and energy doesn't dissipate, it can only transform. It seems to me that ghosts are simply portions of an energy form that was not completely transformed for whatever reason we don't understand, it lingers and manifests in strange (to us) ways until there is some kind of release. That's how I have come to see such things as poltergeists, they just don't know that they can go, some act in ways we find disturbing but I think that letting them gently know that they can go is the remedy.

I don't believe in ghosts, and mostly that is because I have never had any occasion to think that they were real. So a real ghost would be very cool and make me rethink everything.

Could you set up a meeting?

Or bake brownies and let the smell fill the house?
That's how a "spiritualist" friend of mine dealt with hers.

We got rid of our techno-poltergeists by giving the kitties an occasional late evening moist food feeding and scattering catnip a half hour before bedtime so they would wear themselves out.
