BBQ for 400 people-just because. My kind of place!

Every summer, the place I work for has a huge summer BBQ catered up to every floor, and there are close to 400 of us here in Dallas. No special occasion. Just because. People here put in their hours, from part time (for people who want it or need it) to overtime (for the top people who are needed for more than 40 hours a week and get paid accordingly). They deserve it. The difference is that here, they get it. Roast beef, ribs, chicken, 3 kinds of salad, fresh rolls, iced tea, lemonade, and fruit pies for dessert. Take some home for the family afterward, there's plenty left over. I'm only here a few days out of the year, but lucked out to be here on the day it was offered (today).

I have been with this outfit for exactly 40 years as of last week, and don't expect to be changing horses this late in the race. This is one of the reasons why. It's fun, too, but then, after 40 years, I now write my own ticket. I've paid my dues. This Jason Bourne stuff takes its toll. Here, at least, that kind of thing is acknowledged. It's a very rare thing. We like it, and we try to keep it that way.

It IS very rare to have a place to work that is so sympathetic to the work force.

Congrats!

5. It might have been quicker to cook the meat on the sidewalk

But that would have presented the danger of overcooking it.
