I've got a few relatives who do.

That applies to snakes, also, of which, it turns out, there are about 60 kinds, most of them look like the 5 venomous types.
We have mason bees around the house, they are also called, commonly, "busy bees" because they like to fly around your head and go bzzz bzzzzz
as if they are gossiping.
We have paper wasps that make tube nests all over the outside of the house, esp. the porches. They appear harmless.
The yellow hornet that lives in the ground down here is NOT harmless and can be dangerous to people with sensitivity to their very painful stings.

When I see the fuckers buzzing around me I'm not gonna recite the whole damned alphabet.

(20,886 posts)Irritates me no end. Yellowjackets are the bad guys. Bees are the good guys. And, don't just indiscriminately whack them because they look similar to the bad guys.

(8,646 posts)Although we often call yellowjackets wasps. Yellowjacket is too long to say when you are warning someone that one is buzzing by their head.
By the way, the yellowjackets are fucking HORRIBLE here right now. A dry hot summer means they are freakin' everywhere. My youngest daughter got stung a couple of weeks ago while eating a hot dog at the lake. Sadly, I haven't seen a honey bee all summer, and only a few bumblebees.

(46,328 posts)I've seen a lot of bumble bees, and some honeybees, but no yellowjackets.
Usually I see a lot of those.
