but, I am a few episodes behind. (the last episode I watched was the one where the Israeli spec ops woman died...) I've always been fascinated by virus/pandemic stories, even if the dead don't rise after they die from the virus.
I actually like the fact that when the sailors interrogate somebody, they actually follow the UMCJ and don't torture their prisoners. It seems like a big departure from modern Hollywood. Eric Dane is good as the lead. And, despite him being a right-winger, Adam Baldwin is well cast as the second in command.

"Blame America first" ethos.

(10,952 posts)I was yelling at the tv at the end of the last episode. "Shoot the _____ !!!" I didn't want to give away a spoiler in case someone hasn't watched the last episode.

(5,504 posts)Do they stay pretty close to the way the Navy operates?. BTW, thanks for your service.

(2,584 posts)Well in real life and not the world built around the show, the captain would never go ashore and do that running around shooting up everything. Other parts are pretty close to how a ship would operate. Served on 6 ships when I was in and the way the bridge and CIC operate are pretty close. Obviously there is some hollywood type action in it. The sub and ship cat and mouse was pretty close to how it may go. How tactical the skippers are is pretty important in the end. Some are better then others as can be seen. The sonar buoys and how the copter deploys them and some other tech they mention are real.

(46,758 posts)Comes up on Sunday? I usually tape Strain and Fear the Walking Dead and always have this feeling in the back of my mind that I'm missing something.
I like that woman who played in Doomsday. She helps give the movie that apocalyptic edge.

(46,758 posts)Spoiler alert
The sad thing is that an actress of her caliber can use an assassination attempt plot to sneak away from this show to move on to far more profitable movie ventures. I have to listen carefully again to the last show to determine if she was the only one who had the recipe for the antidote.

(56,829 posts)the last ship is what, 13 episodes in the summer? She should have plenty of time the rest of the year to do movies, or another TV show... Noah Wyle has done Falling Skies for 5 years and last year started The Librarians, and season 2 of the Librarians starts next month. (Plus, he did a couple of Librarians movies, but I'm not sure if that was pre Falling Skies or not?)

(46,758 posts)I didn't get a feeling that someone had a big plan for that story. It felt like new plot lines were developing for every season it survived.
Loved the original Librarians. Not sure about the next gen.

(135,425 posts)I did like it and I enjoyed the images of a 21st Century USN. Bit of nostalgia--but just a bit.
I once knew a guy who used to do liaison work with filmmakers on USN-themed (approved) works, and whenever I see quality programming I remember him and some of the movies and tv shows he worked on. It's not as easy as it looks, apparently--there is a lot of triple checking, everything from ribbons to haircuts to protocols. He had some great stories--if I told them I'd be a gossip, but his job wasn't without adventure and a bit of craziness, that's for sure. I always thought he had, for a time anyway, the best job in the Navy!
