I've had not one but TWO miracles I can now attribute directly to Pope Francis!!!

Just give him Sainthood now!

Miracle #1:

So about 2 weeks ago I booked a hotel in NYC but when I never got my email confirmation I called back and they couldn't find it so I booked another room. I needed to upgrade to room size (a friend was coming) and an extra day (seeing the 2nd Robert Plant show) and the hotel folks were very helpful. Figured the first lady never actually booked it.

While driving up to NYC, someone along the NJ Turnpike I saw these Pope Francis breath mints. I thought they were quirky but cute so I bought them. Actually took them with me to the concert and handed them out (the way some folks were drinking and toking - they probably needed them). Didn't help me meet Robert Plant, (oh well) but in the end I left the damn things in the hotel room.

On Monday I checked all my receipts and I found my expected charge for the hotel room on the credit card. But then I found this odd charge for a single night on my debit card. Called the hotel. Turns out they did book my room the first time but spelled my name and email so badly that they could never find me again but they did get the card right. The manager was very helpful, said it was their fault and would clear the charge.

Get this - the charge they cleared: The much larger charge of the actual room I stayed in while in NYC. The only thing I paid was for the single night 'no show' charge. The room I left the Pope Francis breathe mints in was entirely free!!

Miracle #2:

When I returned I found out that Dogfish Head released their 120 Minute IPA and it was getting rave reviews. I must have checked half a dozen of my better liquor stores and everywhere it was sold out. The best I could do was one single 12-ounce bottle of the beer. Even 2 bars that would normally sell the beer on tap kicked early.

Today I was working the Philly Airport for my volunteer shift to meet & greet visitors coming to Philly for the Pope event (I'm a volunteer). At the end of my shift I report in to say I am leaving and another volunteer comes to me and ask if I could help someone who was a bit stranded at the airport. The persson was trying to get to Kennett Square PA (about 10 miles from Wilmington) and his buddies were coming in from Florida had their flight delayed by 4 hours. Only way to get to where he was going would have been about $100. The guy looked normal and I was driving there anyways and his B&B Inn was actually about 5-7 miles down the road from where I live, so I told the guy if he was interested he could just come with me and I'd give him a lift to where he was going. Airport Transportation in Philly is nuts right now with this Pope stuff so a $20 ride to where he was going (he paid for my parking) is pretty damn cheap. Nice guy from Cape Cod.

I dropped him off at his Inn and on the way back I decided to stop at the first liquor store right over the Delaware border (his Inn was in PA). Would you believe they had 8 bottles of Dogfish Head 120 Minute IPA left on the shelf!!! I bought all 8 of them, which was the last they had in the store. That was Miracle #2 to even find them!!!!

Just give Pope Francis his Sainthood now!

One woman told me her boycott of certain products because they sponsor the 'gay parade in NYC' and that parade was 'so immoral'. I told her about the St Patty's day parade in Newark, DE where they found the straight couple having sex by the Dunkin Donuts and said pretty much 'immoral stuff' happens anytime there is a parade and booze is available.

I also had a 14 year old boy wanting me to sign a petition they they were going to give to the pope to ask him to condemn gay marriage. The other girl volunteering with me (who was Catholic) and I both were like 'WTF are you even listening to what the Pope has to say?'. Kid started to talk about Sodom and Gomorrah and how it could happen again. I then asked the kid where his petition was to sign for asking the Pope to endorse incest and pedophilia since after Lot and his daughters ran away from Sodom and Gomorrah they then had sex. Kid looked at me funny and had no clue what I was talking about. I told him to perhaps read the Gospels of Jesus and stop cherry picking bible verses to justify ignorance.

as it was practiced in a Latin American country. Good deeds, helping the poor...all those things were an imperative part of my world view.

As I will forever be grateful for my indoctrination into Liberalism as it was practiced in our household. Though we were a personally reserved tribe, we grew up with a command for tolerance to others and a need to stand up and help the oppressed ... as long as we didn't bring too much attention to ourselves and bring disgrace on our family. (Between the two parents, I had a very conflicted childhood.)

I can't say that I've meet many Catholics in the U.S. that have that particular combination of traits.

Quite to the contrary. Too many like the ones you bumped into and worse.
