Word game. What do these words have in common? I am trying to think of more.

Add more to the list if you can think of any:

Invalid
Wind
Object
Subject - barely makes the cut for this list.
Wound
Resent
Resume
Refuse
Polish
Tear

On edit: I chose not to add "Read" to the list as I want the two pronunciations to have very different meanings.

The others are good, but like "subject" in my list were based on different inflections as opposed to different sounds altogether...but bravo for 5 quick words!

On edit: progress is also different by more than inflection! Unless you are a Brit!

I had a barracks mate with the last name of Kazukiewicz. Once we had an inspection and he got a demerit. He received the explanatory note and all it said was...

"Polish brass"

In Army Infantry OCS we had a guy named Pugliano who already had rank as a Warrant Officer helicopter pilot but wanted to get a commission.

Every once in a while somebody would get Pugliano's attention and twirl his fingers in the air while saying, "Wop wop wop wop." It was never bigoted or mean--everybody respected and loved Pugliano--but people couldn't resist the play on words.

Accent on first vs second syllable -- noun (one adjective) vs verb pattern. Presumably goes back to etymology.

saying a key player has resigned can either draw huge sighs of relief or screams of panic.

That's why I add a hyphen when appropriate: re-sign
