Cool fact about New England (esp. Maine) river names

If the river name ends in "-ook", it's deep enough to get a boat up it from the ocean; if it ends in "-unk" it's too shallow and/or rocky to get a boat up. (Or, at least it was 500 years ago; some have been dredged since.)

I love knowing boatbuilders.
