They use isenglass to clarify the beer, without it most beer is cloudy and opaque like hefeweisen and various ales.

I've even got the vegetarian powers. Also, if you want to avoid isenglass in beer it's fairly easy. There's a list of which beers are vegan all over the internet. I think it's in V/V/AR too somewhere, I got a link to it on DU2.

The vast majority of macro brews in the US aren't going to use it. Some hefeweisen does, so there's no guarantee that way.

The beer isn't necessarily cloudy if they don't use it, but it just takes longer for the sediment to settle out. There's also other non-animal based products they can use that does the same thing.

then I had to switch to light because I was gaining weight. I have now been sober for 14 years and still gaining weight.
